I haven't blogged in a long time.

I haven't blogged in a long time.

Well, usually after a decent blog entry, I'd feel dried up and my creative juices would cease, resulting in a certain drought of blog entries. And I must say that the Art of War was indeed one of my blog masterpieces.

Another reason is due to what's going on in my life that is resulting in me not know what to write about of what can i write about. So what's going on? I don't know. Too many things are going on that I really have no idea what went on. A paradox? Maybe... But not to Joan.

If I were to write things in chronological order it would go like this:
Monday: went out for dinner
Tuesday: Grandfather's dinner treat
Wednesday: went to watch movie
Thursday: went for that Conflict Management workshop and dinner with the ding-dongs
Friday: had a friend over at my place
Saturday: catching up with friends online
Sunday: going tuanbai with the ding-dongs (yet to have happened, but I don't think what would happen would differ much from what I'm writing)

Yup... This sounds so sucky.

You know, there's a lot of things I can write about. I can write about Monday's dinner, gloat to you guys about Tuesday's dinner, write up a moview review about Wednesday's movie, share with you guys what I'd learnt from Thursday's workshop, or my thoughts about well the week in general. I can write about the happenings of my friends, the ding-dongs, about me not doing with them Matric Fair, my disappointment, or about that Immersion Award, if I should apply for it or not. There's so many things to write about that I'm not sure what I want to write about.

There is this one thing I really want to share, but the thought of putting it up online is quite freaky. I would not only freak out the other party, but freak out those who are reading my blog and really, I'm realy skeptical of who reads my blog. I know I'm not those crazy blogsters everybody talks about but I know there are still people other than my friends who are reading my blog. By the way, I also don't want to freak out my friends or relatives. But then again, I think I need to find another avenue to let out all my jumbled up thoughts, considerations, misgivings, my mental and emotional stress.

Sometimes I think that I can just take in things too easily. I don't question people. I just take it for what it is even though I might have some skeptical thoughts, I don't openly question them. What do I do? I either try not to let it bother me even though they always torment me like hell, or I attempt to play mind games even though my gameplan sucks like hell. So either way, I still suck, I can't coordinate peace within myself either way. So I just sit here and wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. And wait for something that would never happen to happen!

I'm frustrated of waiting. I'm frustrated of playing mind games. I'm frustrated of my ignorance. I'm frustrated of you, you, and you!

Why do people torment Joan like this? How could anyone do this to her? What do these people treat her as?

Yea, Why do people torment Joan like this?

How could anyone do this to Joan?

What do these people treat Joan as?

I'm tired of waiting. Just tell me out and open, maybe I'd feel better, things will go on better. It sure beats Joan typing like mad here not knowing what's going on, what's her next step like, what up with everybody in this world.

In my conflict management workshop, I remembered Junming's friend saying that he often gets into conflict with other people cos he doesn't know what they are implicitly implying, well, for Joan, when she doesn't know what people are implicitly implying, she gets into conflict with herself. And I must say that that conflict management workshop was of no use to me cos it was a workshop of dealing with conflict among people and no conflict wth self, which is my biggest problem at present.

Then I realised, that people are not implicitly telling me things cos I'm not doing so too. hai... So ultimately, is it my fault?

Art of War

Art of War

孙子有云: 知己知彼,百战百胜
Which means, to win a hundred battles you would need to know yourself and your enemy well.

Using that logic, Joan shall formulate a set of warring theories that would enable her to either win her battles or give up on all hopes fighting the battles. Why give up the fight? Cos 识时务为俊杰,不该打没把握的仗. Which means that Joan understands that it would be futile to wage a war against something she has no confidence about. As a cautious person, Joan would rather waste that 70% chance and give up that battle instead of risking it. As such, Joan will only wage a battle if she has 95% chance of winning it. The opportunity cost of risking is too high for the vulnerable heart of this poor girl.

子萍章: 按兵不动之道
Joan's theory of warfare: The Art of Withholding an Army

萍曰: 一,敌不动 我不动
Joan says: 1. When the enemy doesn't make the first move, one shan't move too

This is because when the enemy doesn't move, you wouldn't know what the enemy is thinking and you will be in the lower position of the battle as the enemy is able to grasp all your moves while you on the other hand have no idea on how the enemy is going to move. In any battle, never let the enemy know your next move, always be in a superior postition than him.

萍曰: 二,敌动 我就动
Joan says: 2. When the enemy has made his first move, one should quickly follow suit and mobilise.

Of course, you shouldn't rashly mobilise. After the enemy has made the first move, always make sure you know what is the motive behind that move and should always formulate your next move in accordance to your enemy. Never let your enemy easily get what he wants. Always keep the upper hand against your enemy. This would be the best outcome over any battle as you are able to know what your enemy is doing while on the other hand keep a firm check on your enemy.

萍曰: 三,敌没有动 我怎么办?
Joan says: 3. What should one do when the enemy fails to moves first?

When the enemy fails to move, it means that you would not know what the enemy is thinking and you are in a precarious position. You cannot make any move as that would put you in front of the enemy for analysis and your next moves might be forestalled by the enemy. There is also nothing much you can do as at this position you do not know much about the enemy and you would put yourself at risk if you jumped into a battle without considering the outcomes. As Joan said before, she would rather risk the 30% chance of losing the battle rather than the 70% chance of winning it.

萍曰: 四,我动 敌也动 无疑是桩好事
Joan says: 4. When one makes the first move and the enemy follows suit almost immediately, that unquestionably would also be a good thing.

This scenario is the second best scenario Joan would prefer. Of course, in a stalemate, both parties would fail to immediately launch and attack as both would prefer for the other party to make the first move, but as time is money, you cannot wait indiscriminately for your enemy to make the first move. In this case, you should launch an attack. If the result of this is an almost immediate counter-attack by your enemy, then you are in luck as now you know how your enemy fights a battle and you can plan your next moves in accordance to how your enemy reacted. That way, you can still maintain the upper hand against your enemy, and that is the most important thing in a battle.

萍曰: 五,我动 敌不动 那我想还是放弃吧
Joan says: 5. When one makes the first move and the enemy doesn't move in retrospect, then one should just give up all hope and forget about the battle.

This would be the saddest and most heartbreaking of all scenarios. Of course one would wish that the enemy would at least have some reaction, so when the enemy really, indeed, have none, then you should just forget about waging this battle. Ultimately, if the enemy just refuses to make any move against you, you would just be wasting your precious time and resources on something inactive. So, if that happens, it would be wiser if you just put that battle down and proceed to wage another battle on another enemy. That might eventually reap better rewards rather than wasting your time and energy.

Before you think that life is always that sad, Joan would like to end off her Art with the old saying of 留有希望在人间 or keep at least some faith in humanity.

Winning a war is definitely not something easy and this girl herself has yet to win any war she waged as most of her battles were abandoned on the clause of her point number 5 while the others are still hanging on point number 3. Or maybe the failure is due to that Joan is attempting to wage several battles at the same that that she is unable to single-mindedly focus on a single battle and win it. Or maybe, on a better thought, it is that fate has it yet that Joan should win a battle. Just hope that when joan finally wins a battle that would be the most glorifying and spectacular battle ever, the 世纪之战 War of the Century.

After all, a Great War beats all other small battles added together.

Postscript:
I guess some people might wonder why the sudden influx of Chinese characters in this entry. Yes, I'm Chinese and I'm proud of it. Even though when you guys hear me speak you might not realise that my Chinese isn't really that bad, my Chinese is in fact pretty good. And the art of warfare goes way back in Chinese history, so it is only befitting if the key points in this entry are in Chinese. I think you'd need to change the encoding to unicode to view them, but if you happen not to be able to understand Chinese, you didn't really miss much so please don't freak out. After each set of Chinese characters is the English translation of it.

My son~

My son~

My son's name is James. 张 枫.
That is if my husband is a Zhang. If not, then my dear James will be 李 丹. That is, of course, if my husband is a Lee. But if my husband is neither a Lee or a Zhang, then I've no idea what to call my son. Though he'll still be James.

Why James?
Cos I like people whose names start with J-, like Joan. Okay... It's not about the people, but the name. Just a preference ba... Liking something is irrational, so I guess I don't need to resonate my this preference. It would be nice if my husband's name starts with J too, then we'd be a family of Js, but of course, who am I too determine this? lol... Yup... Joan's daughter will be a J- too, but I haven't thought of her name yet. Well, J-names are quite plentiful, so why James? I've no idea. I like the sound of the name. One thing about names is that it's always easier to have a single-syllabus name. Like Joan Ang. lol... Think I'm getting a bit big in the head already. It's Chinese New Year and Joan's sick, so obviously she's going mad.

Why 张 枫 and 李 丹?
Cos I like names to be in pairs. So if my husband's name happens to be a dual character Chinese name, then I'll name my son with two Chinese characters 丹枫. Like those Chinese martial arts novels, those swordsmen have such nice names. They sound so suave and charming, and I do want my son to be like that. Hmm... But it seems that there isn't many Chinese dual-charactered surnames in Singapore and if you know Joan well, she isn't really going to China to look for a husband.

Since Joan is so deeply engaged in martial arts novels, I shall disclose where I got the characters 丹 and 枫 from. It's from my ever favourite novelist 梁羽生's 萍踪侠影录. The male protagonist's name was 张丹枫. And he's the exact kind of guy that would sweep Joan off her feet. Suave, charming, a bit moody, intense, a weathered life, and greatly in love with the female protagonist. Well, if you guys are into sports, you'd notice that the name Lin Dan sounds very familiar. Yup... The world's top badminton player shares almost the same name. He's a damn cool person if you ever watched him play, save for the game with our Susilo, he just wasn't even himself that day. lol... I sound like a traitor.

Well, if I decide to give my son a more conventional name, he'd be 张 俊 or 李 杰. Yup... That thing with the J-names. My daughter will also have a J-name too, and a Chinese name with J too, just that I haven't thought of a suitable one for her yet. lol... She'll be my darling so of course I'd take my time to think of a nice name for her. But single syllabus J-names for girls aren't plentiful and I'd die if I had to call my daughter Jane. That's like so-so-so plain. Oops... Think someone will hantam me, but well, that's the truth. Chinese J-names for my dear daughter? I haven't thought of it yet, but I'll keep you guys posted. lol...

In the meantime, in the words of the ding-dingers, I'll have to need to find the Zhang or Lee guy before I can actually plan anything. I mean, what if I end up not being able to get married to ANY guy much less a Zhang or Lee guy then what? I wouldn't have any kids at all! That's a horrible thought, but it's possible! And it's scary... boohoo...

So, while the ding-dingers open their eyes wide for 6-feet Zhangs and Lees for me, Joan shall open her eyes to look for anyone who might fall between the lines. Any applications? lol... I'm starting to sound desperate liao. wahaha... To all those who do not know me, let me make it clear that Joan is really NOT desperate for anything. hai... Let nature takes its own course. Like what I always say, if not, then it means that it's really not fated. I'll leave my dear James in the hand of fate

Please fate, take care of my dearest James.

Then again, what if my husband isn't Chinese?
Hmm... Then there goes my swordsman son. Well, thinking about it, no matter what ethnic is my husband, my son's mother tongue will always be Chinese. No matter how much I dislike that language or no matter how much my husband protests, my son WILL learn Chinese. So I'll still have to give him a Chinese name. Hmm... if so, should I let him follow my Chinese surname or just let him make do without a Chinese surname. Well, 洪 doesn't really go well with any of the above names I'd thought of, so I guess if I want my son to follow my surname I'll need to think about it all over again. If I'm going to just give my son a Chinese name without suname, he'll be 子 君. yup... A James nonetheless.

Hmm... I'm starting to miss my dear James already, and his sister whose name I've yet to decide. Any nice, single-syllabus, unique J-name for my daughter?

It's highly unlikely that I'll get my daughter to follow my name, though I think it'll be quite cool for my son to follow his father's name. Say, if I've more than one son, the second shall fow his father's name, the second generation. Well, of course, if my husband had followed his father's name then it'll not merely be the second generation but maybe the third or fourth or whatever it is generation. Joan Zhang or Joan Lee just doesn't sound nice sia...

As for the Chinese name for my dearest daughter, it'll definitely have some elements of water in it. Cos my elements are mainly water which signifies emotions which I think would make a girl rather appealing. Girls are meant to be emotional, right? lol...

Thinking about it, I don't know if I should give my daughter a single-syllabus Chinese name or a dual-syllabus one. A dual-syllabus name would make her name sound more endearing, but a single-syllabus name would add uniformity with that of her brother's. What do you guys think?

Really, I'm starting to think, what if I've more kids than I'd planned? Would I have enough names to go around? What if I've three sons? Then other than James and the one that follows his father's name, I'd need one more name for my last son. Now, what would I call him?

Or what if I don't have any sons? If I've only daughters, then I really wonder what would I name them. I'm now already having trouble name one daughter much less a couple. lol... Or what if I can't have kids? Oh no... That's a horrible thought...

Then again, this girl might not even manage to find the right man who would sweep her off her feet, so that's the root of all my name problems. No husband=no kids=no need for names. Sad equation huh?

Hai... Then again, again, as time goes by, as I grow older, my priorities will change, my outlook of life would differ from that I've now. In a couple of years down the road, when I've a job, a career, a power-packed life, would I want dear James to impede me?

Having James would mean at least 4 months out of work if I want to be careful and keep dear foetus James alive and kicking. I'll need to take two months off before James delivery to make sure that he can have a smooth delivery, then after his birth, I'll need at least another two months to recuperate and nurse James. Would I want to waste more 4-months to have more kids? I really don't know. That, I think is not for me to think about now. hai...

No wonder couples aren't keen on having kids nowadays even though deep in their hearts they might really love children.

Another thing about Joan and kids is that she absolutely detests kids wailing. Everytime in the streets when I hear wailing of kids I'd want to give them one tight slap, or stuff their wide open mouths with something to stop them. lol... Yes, I'm impatient, I don't know how to be a good mother, but right now, I still want to give my dear James the best!

As I'm typing this entry, Amazing Race has come to a conclusion.
Freddy and Kendra won.

Well, I don't have any special preference or violent detest of them. Well, from the looks of the last episode itself, they were way ahead and absolutely deserve to win. Just that the road block requiring the contestents to open a lock out of thousands to me isn't very well justified. That requires luck. Like the bales of hay road block, if you are suay then you are really suay man. It's okay to use road blocks requiring luck in the game, but at the last episode? I don't think so. Maybe a road block requiring mental strength would be fairer.

haha...

But it's all over now. I amazed at how Adam transformed in the last few episodes of Amazing Race. He doesn't look much like the weeny he was at the beginning of the race. Hadyn and Aaron, I'm utterly disappointed with them. They blew it. They totally gave up with things went a little wrong for them and to think that I thought they were a stron team in the beginning.

As you guys if following my blog would know, my favourite team was Jonathan and Victoria. lol... I'm starting to doubt my words as I learnt about Victoria being a Playboy Playmate and Jonathan being a close friend of the founder of Playboy, well, ermz... lol...

For this race I'm pretty surprised that it ended up quite sadly as in the last couple of couples are all couples. Okay, if you don't understand, it's okay... lol...

After such a long blog entry and serious brain cell killing thinking about my sons and daughters, I'm tried out...

Postscript

Postscript: Someone asked me, why had I say that Chelsea lost when they hadn't?
Well, cos drawing for Chelsea is something totally uncalled for. Since they didn't win, I'd consider that they lost. Instead of gaining 1 pt, they lost 2. yup... That's why... And it's not as if Man City is a very strong team, right?

Joan's back at home~

Joan's back at home~

She missses being at home where she can lie on her bed with her laptop on her tummy which she can't do in school as the lan cable isn't long enough to permit her from doing so. At home, under a wireless network, she can eat with her lappie, watch tv with her lappie, sleep with her lappie. haha~ Before you think that this girl is addicted to her laptop, I'd like to deny it. Do you really think that Joan would allow her laptop to come beween her and her tv set? No way man... lolz...

Okay... Joan's back at home with tons of readings to catch up and another ton of German homework which all have fallen into Joan's habit of procrastination. Let's see how long can Joan procrastinate until her mind takes over her pathetism... lol...

Joan yesterday just bought a book on Bismarck from Kinokuniya. Yes, why am I so proud to declare that? I don't know... I guess I'm having a withdrawal of Bismarck. The two history modules I'm doing this semester do not include anything pertaining to my dear man, so I guess if I don't read about him myself, I'll have tummy aches, break into cold sweat, suffer from feverish symptoms and god knows what other kind of withdrawal symptoms. Then again, I'm wondering how can I sit down and read a book about Bismarck while procrastinate reading my readings? I'm so way behind in my readings and I'm not flustered. Oh man, the holiday mood has got into me...

Well, not exactly, my dearest Chelsea lost ytd, so I'm supposed to be in mourning. Yingling! It's all your fault! You cursed them! To think that I was still gloating about asernal's loss to man u to my friends that day. I think this is bad karma. No, this MUST be bad karma! Hmm~ Joan mustn't bad mouth any other team again.

Well, after the Chinese New Year would be Valentine's Day, and this girl is dreading it! Imagine, changing your MSN nick to "how come no one wants to celebrate my birthday with me 11 days early?" and no one responded to my pleas? Okay, some of my friends did... But do I want their company? NO!!! Yes, I'm zhong se qing you, so? Just let me be so on this day... Actually, think I'm really cultivating bad karma my pissing my friends off and now no one wants to ask me out on V day.... Boohoo~

Damn... Think I'm getting desperate already~ Worse case circumstance, I end up with Bismarck the whole morning and lessons in the afternoon and friends at night. Friends, if you guys think that that night Joan can like always provide you guys with entertainment, I'll tell you sorry. Look to Shihui ba... Joan will cmi that day. She'll wallow up in her own sorrows and probably piss everyone off by complaining that she really don't want to be with you guys if she has a choice. lol~

Hey... I was doing some calculations and found out that on VDay, Monday, next week, is my Chinese birthday! Heck sia... So i'll be stuck in sch with my that bunch of friends on my chinese birthday, without a boyfriend, without mee sua... Wahaha...

Dread...

This CNY will be totally different from other CNYs with my grandma... oh~ How I miss her... Think I shall spend my CNY, Vdae, Bdae whateverday with Bismarck instead. At least he can always be there when no one else is there. If not I caan always turn to my readings too. They'll always be there for me, calling out to me asking me to open them up devouring their contents, digesting them, waiting come April/May when I'll need to vomit them all out again then banish them into the darkness of one of my shelves never too see them again, unless they happen to be on another of my reading list. lol~

Last call: Wanted company for 14 Feb, or the 6th day of the first lunar month.
Do NOT apply if you are a female.
Thank you!

predator vs prey

predator vs prey

cool... Sounds like some low budget B grade Hollywood movie featuring some of the contestents from The Next Action Star. By the way, the reality programme has really reached the nadir of reality programmes. When you thought you can't get anything new of from the google box, this new but not fresh programme comes out and stuns youwith its sheer stupidity. One thing, like all others who are admires of action movies, we know that a good action star isn't borned in a reality series. They either grow up as body doubles and learn their stunts as they go along or they already are some martial arts exponent who after years of honing of skill finally meets with retirement and acting seems like a fun retirement plan.

Okay, I'm digressing, but anyway, where was I? yup... Predator vs Prey...

I was bathing in the cramped teeny weeny bathroom cubicle in my toilet in pgp and well, started feeling rather icky about the large number of flies in there. Last semester, I'd make it a point to spray the ceilings and wall of the toilet cubicles with my trusty Baygon before bathing so that I can kill all the flies and bathe in peace. More like cleaniness, though. This makes me wonder, how does the person who washes the toilet washes the toilet when the toilets aren't clean?!

Yes, you can call me pampered or what, but I'm just nitpicky. I mean, growing up in the east coast does shapes your life to one who's smart, laid back, and rich. Yes, rich, as in wealthy. I bet if you do a demographics on wealth in Singapore, people in the east coast are indeed wealthier than most places, though Bukit Timah is not included. People in the east coast probably are also smarter yet more laid back. Being laid back would also mean that they are happier, at least in comparison to those money-grubbing Bukit Timahers. Okay, I yet again digress. My point is that, me being a true blue east coast baby do not permit me to bathe with flies!

Then as I heard from my cluster mates that there is a lizard living behind the ceiling boards above the bathrooms of our toilet. At first thought of that, after seeing the scaley mate a couple of times, I really wanted to bring out my Baygon and empty half of the bottle in vain to exterminate that creature, but my knowledge of primary school science got the better of me.

I remembered some time long long ago in primary school, when we were supposed to memorise pairs of animals that supposedly have a relationship of predator and prey and lizards and flies were a pair. So, Joan's brain started tinking (note: this is not a typo, imagine joan's head go tink tink tink, yup, that's tinking) and she thought: If the lizard is killed, there is a very high chance that there will be more flies as the lizard there was supposed to control the population of the flies by eating them up. If I attempt to spray more Baygon at the flies, the poor lizard would probably be affected by it too. Joan may dislike lizard lizards, but she hates flies more than lizards, so she shall rather live with the lizard than the flies.

So joan decided to to utilise the Baygon further, thus giving a new life to either the lizard or the flies. They'd better be grateful and not attempt to disturb me during my bath. I've this horror image of me one day bathing half way when the lizard slips and falls onto me. I will definitely freak out. I guess it isnt really that possible, but, it MIGHT still happen for all I know, or not know.

But giving the lizard a new life makes me feel rather queasy as the lizard doesnt seem to be doing its job eating up all the flies. In fact, the number of flies seems to be ever increasing. Is this lizard on diet??? I don't think so as it does looks pretty fat, but we never know, maybe the lizard is feeding on something that we don't know or that the population of flies is increasing at a faster pace than them dying or kena gobbled up. heck...

Just a note to the flies and the lizard: You better not come and kajiao me, or Joan will bring out her special weapon and make sure you guys are dead in 3 minutes!

This reminds me of another incident between preys and predators...

It was at Marina South, I went there to eat, steamboat, what else? I guess you dont expect people to go to Marina South to eat Hokkien Mee, right? yup... Joan was there with a bunch of girl friends.

Half way during our meal, we spotted a big fat rat running up and down the grass slope behind out table. Unargubly, we all freaked out, not just the east coast babies, but everyone just freaked out. We turned to the shop assisstant, hoping that he can do his best and make our dining experience more wonderful, but instead he gave us a long stare and told us that the rat was harmless. Luckily that was in a pre-SARS context or I guess Joan would have screamed out and called the ENV to come and exterminate the rats.

Then a while later, something brushed by our feet. It wasnt the rats. The rats aren't that bold to come near us even though they are physically really BIG. That thing that brushed by our feet was a cat! Yes, we screamed and freaked out and did what you would expect young girls to do when they encounter a weird animal. Cats really aren't that bad actually. Not as freaky as rats, maybe it was the moment of surprise that made us all scream.

But my point is that there are rats at that place and there are cats there too!

Isn't it a bit weird to see cats and rats happily coexisting in Marina South eating nicely leftover seafood? Okay, to Joan, who grew up watching Tom and Jerry, this is absolutely absurb! Okay... Now that I'm exposed to Garfield, I'm supposed to be opened to the idea that cats are lazy, but, well, maybe i'm just feeling a bit indignant. But I STILL THINK THAT CAT SHD EAT THAT RAT so that I can eat my prawns and fish in peace.

What kind of screwed up world are we living in? Lizards not eating flies; cats not catching rats. By the way, try saying "cats catch rats" 10 times real fast. I bet you can't! Unless you've really have a long long long tongue or are trained in speech and drama or something obscure. Back to where I was at, this world is crumbling down on us. It's snowing in warm places and burning in cold climates. Yesh... something's seriously wrong with planet Earth.

Maybe we should call for Captain Planet! Damn... I'm getting lame... Ya... I grew up watching captain planet, by the way, but that was eons ago. But I guess we need more than superheros to save our homeland from self destruction...

In the meantime, I shall slowly ponder if i should just kill all the flies and the lizard in one sitting or let the lizard live and hope that it will eat all the flies. Maybe I should bring in a mate for the lizard to multiply, then maybe with more mouths to feed, more flies can be exterminated. But do I want to bathe with a family of lizards above me watching? damnit! It sounds so RAed... I guess this is what people call the lose-lose situation.

Maybe a letter of complain to whom it may concern that the toilet is not being properly cleaned would be a more effective method of erradicating the flies and lizard(s) if possible. Really kinda creepy to think that there is something looking down on you from above when you are bathing.

Nobody takes Joan seriously.

Nobody takes Joan seriously.

My parents think I'm some kind of joke, some kind of little girl, some kind of airhead.
My sis, younger sis, sometimes act more like an older sis instead, making me some what like an, ya, airhead.
My friends also treat me like some sort of entertainment machine, one who brainlessly provide mere fun and laughter, like an airhead.
My prof too treat me like an airhead, grading me as accordance to the expectations of an airhead.

I'm sick of being treated like an airhead.

Yes, I know, I might me a little dense sometimes, but i'm not all that stupid you know. I do have a brain and an intellect, just that I usually keep them aside as it's taxing to always lug them around. After years of education, I must say that I didn't pass my exams by being an airhead, I had used my brain and intellect, sometimes crooked smartness to get me through.

I didn't by fluke or anything get by my years of education getting As and Bs. I worked hard for them, not meaning that I was hardworking, but I applied my knowledge well using my smartness, intellect and my brain.

To further prevent people from misunderstanding Joan, she has decided to make a birthday resolution 30 days before her birthday. Once past my 20th birthday, I shan't be that stupid airhead people knew me as. I shall let people see the more serious, matured, intellectual side of me. I shall cease my Stupidity Symptoms column. I shall not play with any more *actions*, nor will I open my eyes wide in innocent and ask "is it?!". I shall also not take anymore wide eyed big headed self portraits of myself. Instead, Joan will talk less, work more, not take too much interest in the junior world out there. She'll be treated as peers by her dear friends, even those friends who are much older, Joan will be able to match to your level. She'll be seen as a big sister or a motherly image to those younger than her.

To the dear friend who scoffed when I said I'd be more serious and matured, I'll do it. Even though you'd said that I can only act it, I know after my birthday, I'll be a changed woman. I'll be a woman, no longer a girl, a little girl. I'll refer myself as this lady, instead of this little girl as I'd always done.

For now, I'll have 20 days more of being an airhead. Maybe I should try and enjoy being it now cos once past muy birthday, I'll no longer have a chance to ease up anymore.

Joan's sick. Very sick.

Joan's sick.

Very sick.

Think it was cos Jon and Victoria got eliminated, my body went on protest... hehe... Joan woke up on wed morning with an itchy throat and as the day progressed, Joan drank lots and lots of water to prevent herself from falling sick, but towards the end of the day, Joan still fell sick. Lost her voice. Thursday went to see doc cos didnt want her sickness to worsen, so dropped by YIH to see the sch doc which wasnt as bad as she thought. She went home on thu night so that she can rest more comfortably with the care of her parents and her sis. Skipped workshop on Fri so that she can have more rest and try and at least get better so that she can go sentosa the next day. But the Sentosa trip was so fun that Joan forgot to take her medicine and today, she's in a worse state than ever... poor thing...

This Sentosa trip is the most fun Sentosa trip Joan had ever had! So even if now I'm almost dying, I'd say it's worth it man! To my that group of friends, you guys are the best man! Come next week after the AGM, say, shall we tear down Kristy's house? woohoo~ It's such a long time since I had such a crazy time with a big group of ppl... think this girl is growing old liao... haha...

Nothing to add liao... Joan haven't been doing much thinking lately, as you can tell out of the lack in sustanial posts. And she hasn't been watching any great movies or read any nice books to add to my reviews.

Haven't watched any movies since my grandma went, so now that the mourning period's over, people, do jio Joan out to watch movies! Joan's pretty okay with any kind of movie, as long as it's either entertaining, or meaningful, or artistic, so guess that's pretty much everything liao... haha... Although Joan do prefer going to either GV Marina or Cineleisure to watch movies.

Amazing Race 6

Amazing Race 6, Wednesdays 10pm ch5

I'm hooked onto the programme. Even after six series, the show never fails to provide me with fresh and new entertainment each episode. Why? Each country is different. Every country featured in the show is different and even if the countries are the same, the places they visit is very much different. Every pair of contestants is different. Even though most of the pairs are like good-looking couples, everybody in the show have a different personality and the way they handle relationship either with other contestants or with their partner is different.

Who am I supporting in this leg?

I guess most people would be shocked to find out that I actually quite like Victoria and Jonathan. They are the most colourful pair in this race, except for maybe the father-daughter pair, cos they are coloured. haha... racist joke, ignore pls...

Jonathan.

Well, I guess that says a lot of things. He's the most interesting person in the game, and probably has a character enough to feed every other contestant since the start of the series. He's the most chauvinist person ever. But sometimes, he does have a point and his point is in fact an effective game plan, just that the way he puts his words across to Victoria is rather harsh. He's not really that bad as I think the editing of the show made him out to be. I mean, he has been married to Victoria for quite some time already, and I suppose that if she really couldn't stand him, or if he's really that bad, she wouldn't have married him or would have already divorced him long ago.

If you scrutinise every single episode, you'd notice, that there seems to be a tinge of tenderness of Jonathan in him, just that I guess most of these scenes didnt enter the final cut. We must understand that it's his this explosive character that hooks people to their tv sets to want to find out when is Victoria going to burst. Okay, to give some examples of Jonathan's tenderness, there was one scene where Jonathan made a wrong judgement, Victoria asked him to apologise. We might guess that Jonathan being the biggest chauvinist with the biggest ego would say some crap and shirk out of apologising, but he didn't. Jonathan readily admitted his mistake and apologised to Victoria.

Well, bearing this in mind, everytime he makes Victoria apologise, I guess that's only normal to want her to apologise when he had did that. Perhaps the only problem with him is the tone of voice he used. He always sounds like he's trying hard to be superior to his wife, but I believe that that's part of the problem with the editing of the final show.

Another incident, was in Africa, Jonathan was so taken in by the little kids that he started out giving sweets to them. Victoria commented that he indeed loved kids. I don't think a guy who loves kids is capable of any violent actions to his wife. This was in stark contrast with another female contestant who when seeing the kids commented that the people here "could not stop breeding".

Well, Jonathan did mention in the start of the show that he might come across to people as hot-tempered, but he is actually, in fact, "passionate". haha... Joan like passionate guys...

But sometimes, Jonathan does take things a little to far. then we can only lament poor Victoria. Like in the words of another female contestant, Victoria is really very "pitiful". Victora comes across to me as a really emotional person, and I think her personality fits with Jonathan very well, so I'm hoping that they can go all out and win the race, then we can say that that's Victoria's reward for sticking by the side of the most obnoxious tv character. She does deserves something out of this race.

To end, I must emphasise another point, that I think Jonathan and Victoria are quite well off. They listed their job as entrepeuneurs and in the opening video, their house seems to be very big and nice along with their own private pool. Before we condemn Jonathan's temper, we must bear in mind that hot-tempered people would have reached that far, especially if it's in business. But I'd think that it's his passion that brought him that far.

In Jonathan's terms "It's passion, passion."

Joan like guys like that. Very colourful and very attractive. Dont think that there are many these sort of people around, is there?

Cant wait for tonight's episode of Amazing Race.

But I dont think I can tahan another episode of Adam's whining. He's like a big baby man... No wonder his girlfriend broke up, and I dont think this game can bring them back together as it only exposes more of his falibilities. He better take a leaf out of Jonathan's book sia...

More on the Amazing Race after the game concludes. Will give you my two-cents worth of remarks... hehe...

Numb

When this girl is busy it seems like she's very busy, but when she's free, she's so goddamn boliao.

But comparing, i'd rather be goddamn boliao than stressed like siao. What do I do when I'm stressed? I cry, I make myself feel bad, I think that the whole world hates me, I hole myself up in a corner and pretend that no one in the world needs me. And today, I found out that I was labelled as a big show off. Like what the crap?! A person who does front stage work and not back stage work. Okay... I'm bitter, I'm indignant, I feel terribly misunderstood. Then again, why shd I care about what others think when my conscience is clear? Bah...

When bad things come, always note that they don't just come, they swarm towards you. Yup... I hate cors. Someone should just screw cors. Like what the heck? I'm missing one tutorial and the only slot where there's vacancy for that tutorial is Wednesdays 10am. As you guys know, Joan not a morning person. But somehow, after the initial indignant, shouts and cries and unhappiness, I feel so numb.

Numb.

I think that's the ultimate extreme point of unhappiness. Sucks... My heart is dead.

At this point in time, I feel so vulnerable, like anyone can just enter the void space in my heart and take over the whole of it. But I dont want that to happen. Or rather, I want that to happen. I just dont know what I want or what I dont want, see, I'm being vulnerable. You can even make me believe that shit can turn into gold and with all my wit even at this point in time, i'll still believe. I dont know...

I want to sleep, but I dont want to sleep.

I want to call somebody to pour out all my problems, but I dont want to feel so naked in front of that person.

I want to cry, but i dont want people to think that i'm being weak.

What can I do? Who can help me? Do I actually want to do anything? Do I actually want people to help me? I don't know. Like I said, I'm freaking in complete conflict with myself.

Joan is bored stiff, part 2!

Yes, this girl is back to killing time. She's now squating in the AS7 computer lab cos the one in the library is packed like PACKED and she has absolutely nothing to do until 7.

Just share with everyone something pathetic then I shall continue my review on my past posts. But I guess most people would rather not read the latter. haha... Okay, I had decided that this semester I shall be a mugger, so on I went to the Co-op to get my textbooks and had wanted to start reading them to consolidate my lectures. But fate has it then I'm not a mugger and denied my from purchasing my books as ALL of them are due in next week. Pretty sad sia... So, hence, therefore, Joan is here now typing nonsense.

18 November 2003
My rankings still stands. I still think so, yup...

23 November 2003
Right now, I'm wearing a 37degrees tee, yup, although I absolutely detest that place for their sizing, I still bought quite a bit of their clothes. And my size for their clothes, tees, an L. Yes, a big fat L! Ironically, I'm an S in ALL other sizings available in Singapore, I'm an S, 8, 34, in UK and Continental sizings respectively for tees, so I don't think I'm really that large, am I?

1 December 2003
The tan has long since faded, but before it faded it was burnt. The camera is now obsolete compared with other new models out in the market. I'm too old to fit back in my prom dress and all my friends too. I miss my DHS juniors. Eunice is picking up well. I miss the 4B mates. My bag is weathered at the present moment. And I managed to send out all the cards on time, but half of them were written 2 sec before I sent them out, sitting at Coffee Bean in Marine Parade and that has since closed down liao. Time changed, things changed, people do change too. BTW, that P-word is my fav PROCRASTINATION. haha...

11 December 2003
The quotes mentioned were in my old old blogskins, so I guess they are like sorta lost liao. Do watch Ashes of Time if you wanna know what's the quotes like. Battle Royale, do watch it too, if you can get it cos it's illegal. And the manga I mentioned, Singapore stopped importing them liao, think they kena banned liao. hai...

13 December 2003
T is outa my life now. haha... And I still can't find my ex-classmates, nor have I struck the lottery. Yes, I do lead quite a sad sad life. Yup, Ng Shihui, Derrick Kong, Christopher See, Elaine Wong, if you see this, or if anybody who knows them see this, PLS CONTACT THIS GIRL IMMEDIATELY. Thanks!

16 December 2003
My rooms still in the state it was then, only there might be more things now. I've been listening over and over to the album Leiqiao and the more I listen to it the more I love it! Do buy the album. It's a classic.

22 December 2003
I've changed my handphone again since that phone. I still miss my dear Blossoms, but I do love my present phone loads, lots more than Blossom's replacement. My phone's now named Ah Lian cos of it's dress, the previous dress made me name her black baby--bb.

24 December 2003
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is great reading. Mystic with fanciful actions, Joan recommends it to all would like manga.

28 December 2003
I still have the vcd with me, or do I? Did I lent it to you, Yanling? Have you returned it to me? hehe... Can't remember liao, but I still don't like that perspective of Hitler. Reunion dinner was great, btw. And those products I mentions did not really work. haha...

2 January 2004
I reviewed my New Year Resolutions some time back liao, so won't repeat them again. Maybe I would, if I'm bored enough to review my posts all the way until recent. Better hope I don't sia...

8 January 2004
A rather cringe worthy post. I sounded so boastful! How could you guys actually read my blog with tsk-ing?!

12 January 2004
The dinner was well worth waiting for man! It was great! It was better than great man! I'm floating now, but wonder if we'll go there again this year cos after the sad event, we aren't really supposed to celebrate, but can't we fulfill our tummies?! But still, dinner will never be the same ever again. hai...

15 January 2004
It wasn't really as bad as I made it out to be. It was actually quite fun. I kinda missed it, especially now that I'm back studying and studying really sucks big time man.

20 January 2004
Hmm... Kinda missed my old blogskin. That was a nice one. Then again, I really like this current skin that's why I've been using it for ages liao. hehe...

22 January 2004
I absolutely refuse to read this post again. It's cocky and makes my tummy growl. BTW, I still have yet master the art of posting pictures online. Yes, I am that pathetic... Oh man, if only what I wrote is right in front of me right now, really, would I even care to continue with this shit? And my cravings for xiaolongbao is still going strong. hai...

25 January 2004
Yes, I took the dumbs SATS for NOTHING. WTH!

27 January 2004
I've given up on learning ziwei doushu already. haha... It's too complicated for a normal person to understand much less a Joan.

29 January 2004
Oh... I must tell you! That day I was singing KTV and Peiyi managed to locate that song and we sang it. It was a classic man... A damn nice song! Now on it will become one of my KTV-must sing songs liao.

31 January 2004
To people concern over my friendship, it's all clear! It was fine liao... So much so that I can't really remember what happened at that time so it wasn't really something very serious, I guess.

3 February 2004
I still don't meet up with the CDS people regularly save for Yanling. And I still have yet struck Toto. I pledge here, if I ever strike top prize in Toto, I'll definitely force all of you CDS people out for dinner with me! I'll force, bribe, blackmail, and make sure all of you are present!

5 February 2004
A dear girl had really thought that I really struck Toto and messaged me to congradulate me. Well, guess she just read the entry in passing. But I still wish that one day, everybody will message me congradulating me on striking Toto and I need not tell them that it was a mistake.

7 February 2004
If you read the side of my blog, I listed this movie as my fav movie. It wasn't actually so. My fav movie originally written by the side was Eternal Sunshine of the Spottless mind, but I changed it after watching the TV premeire of the movie Being John Malcovich and before I turned into a anti-Charlie Kaufman activist. I guess Being John Malcovich shows us the true colours of the Jew scriptwriter. And who else dares to counter me on the argument that the Jews are out to conquer the world?!

10 February 2004
I still like Faye!

13 February 2004
What a heart-wrenching piece written on such a heart-wrenching day. To all, I've walked out of this traphole with lots of injuries and now, I must say what I need is time, and if possible, that Prince Charming to sweep me off my feet and away on some horseback...

17 February 2004
It wasn't that bad la... But a little daydreaming is always good. haha...

20 February 2004
More of Joan's musings.

23 February 2004
Now that I've got my ABB B3 in my pocket in my hand in my tummy in my future, that post is nothing liao. That's worries over nothing. haha... If only I knew my grades when I wrote that piece, I wouldn't need to be so so moody. haha...

Okay... It although isn't really time for me to go off liao but i'm bored stiff from crapping. Utter crap sia. Haven't wrote anything decent in the past hour or so and I'm so utterly amazed that I can write all this nonsense on and on.

Just on an ending note, I'm surprised about my postings for February 2004. There is NOT a single mention on my BIRTHDAY!!! Guess there wasn't much to write about ba... That means I had a sad sad birthday. And I guess it would be so this year again. wahaha...

Just like ytd, if you feel your time have been wasted, claim your free xiaolongbao-s from me! And also kudos to everyone who got till here with me!

Joan is bored stiff!

Joan is bored stiff!

This will be the most boliao post Joan has ever posted here and pls forgive her if she bored you stiff too. She'll treat you xiaolongbao-s if you are unhappy with her, just call her up, drop an sms withher, or im her, and arrange a time and date for your free xiaolongbao! haha... So this is how desperate Joan's getting now with her crazy craving for xiaolongbao. haha...

Joan lay in bed last night and couldn't fall asleep cos she had this extensive craving for xiaolongbao-s. wahaha...

Okay... On with the most pathetic piece of post ever:

A review of all of Joan's previous posts, starting from 19 September 2003.

That was when I first got my blog. I created a blog cos everybody around me had a blog and were talking about stuff they posted on it and I felt miserably left out due to my technological expertise, or rather inexpertise. It was exam period when I first created it and I guess my prelim grades of CEE C6 does explains everything.

20 September 2003
Joan thanked her dear friend Shuhui for her technical help and went on posting a story she wrote. Now looking back, that story's really juvenile and probably contains some very serious grammar errors that now looking back at it, I'll cringe. It's very funny that my most prized piece of writing is never posted online sia. Think maybe one day, I shall post that piece, wait for it ba, I'll let it go through a couple more editions before putting it up.

22 September 2003
That was a Communist issue. I think that explains my political stand. oops... Don't come catch me, send me to prison hor... By the way, yup, Joan finally managed to purchase that book on Chin Peng in Kinokuniya and have by now finished the book cover to cover.

27 September 2003
A nonsenisical piece. haha... BTW, the blank is supposed to be diamond, yup, if you guys don't know.

2 October 2003
The ending to my story. I think the endings sucks. I'd completed it pretty hastily so I guess that's why it's so ba...

11 October 2003
The poem I wrote before I had the inspiration for that story, maybe it gives some hindsights.

16 October 2003
I'm so glad to be able to announce that 2046 is finally completed and I'd watched it liao. Refer to my critique on the movie somewhere in my blog, perhaps if i'm really that boliao today I might get till there, if not the search through the archives yourself ba. In short 2046 was quite a disappointment in that it had not matched up to my expectations, still it was a commendable piece by my fav director.

18 October 2003
That incident mentioned in that dream I wrote still haunts me occasionally. If there was a most memorable mistake, or most terrible mistake I ever made story telling competition and I decide to join, I guess that's what I'll write about.

28 October 2003
Now that I've been there done that, it's a piece of cake actually. hahaha... Was talking about taking my A level exams if you hadn't caught what I mean, btw. haha... Now that I've my ABB B3 in solid black and white on a piece of official document, I can claim that haiyo, what was the worries about?!

30 October 2003
A short piece on one of my perennial favourite topics. Totalitarianism. haha...

31 October 2003
Had not managed to collect those dumb bottle caps and hence did not get to see my dearest Wubai in Singapore, BUT, the next time I WILL GET TO SEE HIM!!!

Okay, I shall stop here now as I've filled up my time and now I've to go. haha... Might continue if I ever get too bored again or if I ever need to fill up my time doing nothing! For those who've managed to read until this period at the end, I must say, wah zai sia.

Tsunami Disaster Relief

Tsunami Disaster Relief

I'm sure by now everybody should have at least donated some money to some charity that would be donating to the above cause. The most well-known agency collecting aid for this cause would be the Red Cross Society of Singapore. We can see their tin cans everywhere, adverts on all newspapers and magazines, one newspaper has even tied up with that agency to collect donations.

But this girl here, our dearest Joan, hasn't donated a single cent to any organisation yet.

Why?

The reason to Joan is very simple. Like other charity donation drives which Joan scoffs at, she absolutely has no intention of donating money that contributes to some rich official's coffers.

Red Cross had said right from the start of their donation drive that they only want money. No food, no clothes, no nothing except money. Well, I think donations shouldn't be like that. Even though we've seen in other donation drives some people donated things like bikinis, hats and god knows what for the Relief, it'd be damning to just ask for money that ultimately would be used to acquire clothes and food which could be donated by us. So why money? According to Red Cross, they said that it would be logistically more viable for them to purchase these goods. Then again, here's the big question:

Where are they going to buy those relief stuff from?

According to Red Cross, the money that we Singaporeans had donated will be sent over to their Red Cross headquarters in London, then from there the London Red Cross would then decide how they'd like to allocated the money to the various afflicted nations. Hence, it would most likely be that the relief items would be bought in London, or Europe. Imagine millions of dollars just flowing out of our little economy into the already fat pockets of the European Union, not a very pretty sight ain't it?

If we were to donate in kind or to an agency based in Singapore, at least those relief items would be purchased in our homeland and our economy would remain in equilibrium. Okay, I might sound a bit overtly nationalistic but I always believe that we must have the might to sustain ourselves before we do out part and help others.

Back to my main point, before anybody accuses me of being unfeeling towards the disaster victims, I feel pained for them just like everyone else. I also think that they would need our aid, it's just the operations of Red Cross that I distrust. As a newpaper had reported, there are fears that up to 25% of the donations would end up as operation costs for the Red Cross. Is that what we had wanted?! Had we donated money so that it could be spent on such?! To me, I'd think that it's a pure waste of money! Hence my boycott of the Society.

I would everyone else who don't want their money used other purposes than relief do so too!

If you really don't mind your money used for other Red Cross purposes, really, I'm not stopping you from donating money to them, after all, it's your money. haha...

But then again, would all the other 75% of the donations end up aiding the disaster victims?

I don't think so. A big portion of that money would somehow find it's way into the coffers of some local big shot official. Maybe not so much for these Red Cross funds, but definitely so for those funds contributed by the various nations in the name of reconstructing South Asia. This would be especially so bearing in mind that those countries afflicted by the disaster are all pretty corrupt countries. Who can cross their hearts and say that India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand is not corrupt you are either ignorant or very ignorant.

This whole Red Cross affair reminds me of one particular local charity organisation that Joan absolutely detests. NKF.

We all know that 25% of NKF funds goes to some obscure cause other than helping needy patients and we know that the NKF building is VERY nicely furnished and lots of people are still donating during their charity shows as they want to win a condo or a car or god knows what.

Is that still charity?

Joan doesn't think so. yup... And as such, Joan is hugely ANTI-NKF.

But please don't think that I'm just another selfish brat. Cos I ain't. Perhaps is what I deem as charity and helping others is different from other people.

On a midnight bus home...

On a midnight bus home...

I was taking a midnight bus home yesterday. I was the only passenger on board the bus for most of the ride, except for the bus driver, that is. Then a thought suddenly flasked through my mind, what would make the bus driver freak out???

I thought of two spooky scenarios, which would be scarier...

On board the midnight bus, the bus driver had not stopped to pick up any passengers at all as the night was quiet and all folks have returned home. The dutiful bus driver concentrated on his driving when suddenly he had the urge to turn his head back to look at the seats of his bus. At the far end of the bus sat a long haired, pale faced female passenger.

Or,

On board the midnight bus, the bus driver had picked up a long haired, pale faced female passenger only as the night was quiet and all other folks have returned home. The dutiful bus driver concentrated on his driving when suddenly he had the urge to turn his face back to look at the seats of his bus. There was nobody on board the bus.

hmm... Joan would freak out on both occasions, but seriously thinking, which would one rather face? Which is scarier?

Give it a thought!

Steven Lim

Steven Lim

Joan has never been reduced to tears watching variety programmes, ever. But as most things, there'll have to be a start somewhere. Steven Lim started it.

What is humour?

Joan doesn't think that strutting around in a yellow swimming trunks is very humorous. Hence, Joan wasn't exactly very entertained by Steven Lim, in fact, she was cringing throughout his performance she unfortunately saw on TV, the sad variety programme of Top Fun.

It is quite ironic to think that just the day before Joan was explaining to her friends why she absolutely detested Stephen Chow and Ben Stiller and would never pay to watch Kung Fu Hustle and Meet the Fockers, their respective movies now running. Joan finds that Stephen Chow and Ben Stiller kind of humour are not very funny and instead is rather disgusting. Sad to say, Joan would be putting Steven Lim up among detestable humour with Stephen Chow and Ben Stiller.

And everytime I think about that time I met him in Orchard, my goosepimples would appear. I'd go, oh my god, oh my god, he was 20cm away from me?!! It sounds so disgusting that I'm feeling so faint now.

Really, I wonder which decent person would do what he did on national TV. It's either he just has a burning desire to perform and/or let people know about him, or he is plain mad. I saw how the female guests in Top Fun were reduced into tears then realised that tears were too streaming down my face. Was it lears of laughter? Someone asked me. Definitely no! It was more like tears of disgust. My body was cringing so badly that I thought I was going to get spasms, but instead, tears just uncontrollably ran down my face. Yes, Steven Lim is that bad.

This makes me wonder. After Singapore Idol and Econ Night last year, why could the Top Fun producers still allow Steven Lim up on stage?!! Someone should just ban him from being on national TV and disallow him to ply his trade in Orchard, ever. I think I'm having a phobia of Orchard ever since I met him there and kena terrorised by his wanna pluck eyebrows routine. For once, I'm showing due respect to Mark Lee, for walking out on this horrifying guy.

*salutes Mark Lee*

But still, my most cringing TV/movie moment is awarded to Stephen Chow. In one of his Sun Wukong shows, the second one actually, Xian Lu Qi Yuan, I was most horrified by the scene where Stephen Chow's character had his crotch burned. I always flip over when I see that scene on reruns on TV. Can the relevant people doing the TV programmes just burn that tape and never show that show ever again, please?

Hai... The degradation of TV that makes even the most diehard TV fan not want to watch TV... What else has life in store for this girl with eyes wide opened in horror?!!

Joan's Personal Encounter With A Tsunami

Joan's Personal Encounter With A Tsunami

With reference to the latest earth movements in the Indian Ocean, Joan would like to share with everyone her own personal encounter. It is horrifying to see the large numbers of deaths in South/Southeast Asia to gigantic waves and not directly to the 8.9-9.0 earthquake.

With improvements in technology and superior warning systems, earthquakes are no longer as deadly as before. Even a 9.0 earthquake would not be able to topple a tall building with strong foundation. Sadly the bulk of the deaths from these earthquakes are of poor rural peasants who, well, are rather neligible to the authoritites who do not try to save them cos they are seen to them as a waste of resources. Personally, I think there might even be a conspiracy theory in Indonesia. The epicentre of the earthquake is nearest to Aceh and as we all know, the Indonesian government isn't on that good terms with the Acehnese hence I am thinking that perhaps there might be a conspiracy theory that the authorities are holding back aid and relief to the Acehnese in hope that more of them (especially the extremists) would die and create less trouble for them.

*Disclaimer: This is JOAN'S random thoughts and should carry NO weight AT ALL.*

Other than the earthquakes, this massive movement of the earth crust brought along another disaster, tsunamis. Some call them tidal waves, but I don't think they are really caused by tides as we know that tides are caused by gravity and some weird relationship of the sun and moon and god knows what, so in here I shall call them tsunamis. At this point in time, 22 000 people from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Somalia have been accounted dead. Many more are still missing, which technically means dead but without the locating of their bodies yet.

This brings back to my point. Singapore is much much nearer to the epicentre of the earthquake than India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Somalia, yet we are not much affected by these movements. Yes, there were little shakes in some parts of the island, but not more than a wriggle and definitely no tsunamis and we are talking about an ISLAND surrounded by water very near to the epicentre. Why so? Thank god we are lucky.

Joan examined the map of the region and came to a conclusion that Sir Stamford Raffles indeed had great foresight. Singapore is surrounded by much larger land masses of islands like Sumatra, the Mainland, Java, Kalimantan and because of these blocks created by the land masses, there is a limit to the formation of large waves. Sri Lanka and India are unprotected by any land masses and are open to the vastness of the Indian Ocean. There is adequate, more than adequate length for killer waves to gather.

However, before we can smirk at the dead Indians, we must also beware of the deadliness of tsunamis too cos if the epicentre was not north of Sumatra and say north of Java, between Sumatra and Kalimantan, then Singapore is dead. Singapore is so tiny that I think one tsunami is enought to sweep up to Bishan.

*At this point, Joan looks out of her window, there is a black out at the car park outside her house. She knows that beyond the carpark is a cluster of low lying houses, then an expressway, and then after that lies the sea. A small tsunami is adequate to drown her if she's caught unawared. The night does looks quite scary*

Enough of that before I freak out.

When Joan was reading the papers about the tsunami and watching the news about it, she had a sense of deja vu. Somehow, she felt that she had experienced it before...

This brings us back to where she had started, "Joan's encounter with a tsunami"...

It was a couple of years back but not too long ago, say maybe when I was 17 or 18 (if you don't know, I'm closing on 20 now) when I had this very vivid dream. So vivid was the dream that I can remember it until now.

The scene was West Coast of the US, on board a luxury liner. The time was late morning. We were having a scumptous buffet spread for brunch on board the luxury liner. It wasn't exactly a cruise, but more of a private ship that ferried people to this offshore ship building area where I held an inspection job. I had just finished inspecting a number of ships. I can't remember who I was with, but I was definitely with a preteen boy among others. He could be my brother or my son or just somebody I know, anyway, the thing was that I was extremely concerned about him. Everything was going along fine. The feeling was something like on board Titanic before disaster struck, everyone was merry. Then suddenly, the ship took a dive and started speeding up. I saw a huge wave rising from behind the ship going to crash into us. The ship was racing with the wave, whichever reaches the shore first would be the winner. I grabbed the hand of the boy with me as tightly as he permitted as we ran up the shore. The gigantic wave about five stories high and was crashing fast into the streets. I had to run as quickly inland as possible with the boy still with me.

I can't remember what happened after that, but it was night already. I was safely in a warm house with heating facilities. The boy was upstairs sleeping and I was downstairs peering out of the window. The weather outside seemed to be very cold as my window was pretty much fogged up. People were streaming the streets, pushing and shoving.

Then I can't remember much liao. After that, I remembered that I too took the streets but as a voluntary relief worker. I was helping to direct the people to a safe place to rest. The boy wasnt with me at this time. The streets were all wet, and everyone was wet and hungry.

That's it...

It's very saddening to think that so many people have died. Okay, if you ask the urbanised Joan who she's sad for, it's actually the tourists in Thailand that she's most sad for. Tourists were there cos they wanted to escape the cold dry winter back in their homeland and NOT get into a cold WET journey of struggle for survival in a foreign land. Really, you can call Joan a bourgeois or a racist or whatever you want, but really, I don't really give a damn shit about the deaths of those pathetic Indian peasants. The world has too many peasants and this little deaths don't really cost us a lot. ha!

Okay... Really, nobody deserves to die, but if you're dead, then it's only your fate to blame. Even as I'm writing out this piece the death toll is still rising.

*Joan scrolls up and alters the death figures that she gave previously*

hai...

Wonder what the world is up to now?

It's saddening to know that the next most important news next to this earthquake/tsunami is about Ukraine opposition leader kena poisoned by his government, like what the?!

I think the only happy news now is that Meeting the Fockers set a new Christmas box office record. Diaoz... Maybe you guys don't know why I diao is that I have this adverse thing about Ben Stiller. Not just because he's a Jew, but more so I dislike his based humour. The Stephen Chow kinda humour... Yucks!

*Joan just heard that a very sad news*

*she is in no more mood to talk about tsunamis or earthquakes or Ben Stiller or even the pathetic salesman she met today*

Will talk about pathetic salesmen another time ba...

Reputation preceeds a person

Stupidity Symptoms 11
Joan and Friend went to buy earrings. As we all know, Joan likes pearls and likes pearl earrings so she could not resist taking a second look at the pearl earrings on display. She spotted a pair of earrings with the pearls all bunched up like grapes. She held them up amused to her friends and said in rapid Chinese, “Chi putao but u putao pi, bu chi putao dao tu putao pi.” Then seeing that her customer likes pearls, the salesgirl brought over to Joan a bigger collection of pearl earrings and Joan continued reciting the above lines until she left the store and Friend made her shut up.

Okay...

An update on Joan's life.

She went for two camps and hell lot of fun disturbing people and being super enthu for a change. I don't know where did I get the energy from, but I managed to cope well without adequate sleep and morning sicknesses. In fact, I think that putting my mind away from all the unhappiness was what made me held out for so long. Okay, I didn't really manage to hold out totally. I broke down once throughout. But coming out from that made Joan a stronger girl!

I like going for these sort of camps and getting to know a whole lot more people and making friends with them. It is easy to get close to them during camps as we live, eat, play together, but what must come out of this is the effort to stay close even after the camp. But camps are also the time when one really finds out that there are certain people that working together with isn't really that great an idea. It is not that that person is not a good worker, but sometimes, there is a clash of methods of going about doing stuff and is hard to reach a comprimise. Well, in such circumstances, it's better to steer clear away from that person if there's a next time to be working together. But we can still be friends, just not working partners. I guess that's why some people advise not to marry your colleague.

Another thing I've understood from my camps:

Reputation preceeds a person

I made a fast friend in the second of my camps and we were going along quite well until on towards the end of the camp he revealled to me this...

Friend: Actually, I've heard about you before.
Joan: (shocked) What did you hear about me?
Friend: Not very nice things.
Joan: (lagi shocked) Like what?
Friend: I heard from my friend that you said some pretty nasty things during a class.

Friend was referring to the time when I said some things during a tutorial trying to justify Hitler's actions.

As we all know, Joan is anti-Semitic, but really, do Jews deserve to die? NO! Of course not. Nobody deserves to die. Then again, let me go through the arguments once again.

Is it justifiable to hate Jews?

We all have people we dislike. You might hate hypocrites, arrogant people, poor people, horny people, or whatever kind of people, so why can't I hate Jews? They are also a kind of people that one can not like due to certain characteristics. Some people hate Christains, some hate Muslims, some hate Blacks. I'm just hating the Jews.

How much so that I hate Jews, I'll never justify the fact that Hitler did indiscriminately killed them.

BUT

It can be justified using argument. On paper, I shall argue it ou t for you to see how it goes, but really, I think that nobody should die like that.

Is it justifiable for Hitler to kill Jews?

Jews are a group of people, like any other groups of people who can be hypocrites, arrogant people, poor people, horny people, or whatever kind of people, for all that matters, they can be murderers. So if it's justifiable to apply capital punishment on murderers, why isn't it justifiable to apply capital punishment on the Jews. Just as long as there's a rule stating that it is illegal to be a Jew, they can apply that punishment. For the law to be in place, a whole bureaucractic procedure have to be involved and we MUST remember that Hitler went through all these.

Hitler did NOT sieze power by coups or force or anything like that, he won power via elections and winning over the political leaders at that point in time.

It is just like in some countries with capital punishment. The moral issues remains, do we have the right to kill another fellow human being? And this is the reason why some so called first-world developed countries did away with capital punishment as they think that it is against freedom. Before we can say such, we must always remember that the so called most free country the USA, still exercises capital punishment, so how can they slam Hitler just like that?

Before people start calling me neo-Nazi or something similar, I must say that, I'm not Nazified. I'm just a discerning history student who want to justify SOME of Hitler's actions. The most important thing in anti-Semitism is that it did not start in Hitler's hands and neither was the Holocaust the worst effect of anti-Semitism.

The Russians should be the main culprits. After all, they were the ones who were said to have faked to Protocols of the Elders of Zion and their pogroms killed more people than the concentration camps.

A review for the year 2004

A review for the year 2004

If you guys look through my archives, you would notice that at the beginning of this year I made a list of New Year Resolutions. Well, after almost a year, I shall now go through them once again and review how much have I achieved this year.

1. earn money
>>As we can see, before Joan went into uni she only took up two jobs. One a short stint with John Little and the other a 4 day stint with Ritz-Carlton, so she didn't really earn a lot of money. She didn't even bother taking up tuition jobs when it came her way and now she is back to being a full time uni student.
Conclusion: 30% accomplished
Luckily in the year of 2005 Joan need not worry about money problems as she will have to concentrate on her studies and the money problems shall be transferred to her dad. hehe...

2. learn diving
>>Joan really tried. She sign up with NUS dive club but freaked out in the end. Nothing's out of it and it seems like Joan's over this phase of life. Maybe later in life when she really got nothing better to do or have a more compelling reason to pick up diving ba...
Conclusion: 5% accomplished
Joan's now not thinking of learning how to dive liao. Instead, she's thinking of learning how to drive instead, but of course she'll have to first overcome her fears.

3. get good a level results
>>ABB, B3 A level results. Need I say anymore? Okay, the grades aren't really that spectacular to the high flying geeky students but to underachieving Joan who got only a CEE, C6 for her prelims, this is indeed a big achievement to her. The only regret is not getting A for history.
Conclusion: 90% accomplished
Next step, getting good grades in Uni. Do hons. Go for exchange programme. The sky's her limits!

4. get good SAT scores
>>1350. Need I say anymore too? Okay, wth... SATS were ruled of of contention after like two hours after its implementation so even if I did well for it it is of NO use AT ALL.
Conclusion: 50% accomplished
Heck sia... Anyway, Joan's thinking of getting her IQ tested. Really wondering how smart is she exactly, or not, by the way. hehe...

5. find a boyfriend
>>After a year and Joan is still here typing some have or don't have. Said.
Conclusion: 0% accomplished
That shall continue to be her sole mission in life... A long continous search for the perfect soul mate for the little girl. If only it rained men, good men. Or if only the guys she likes has eyes...

6. become prettier
>>So I'm not painting up my face every day, but with face masks and nose masks and toners, Joan is indeed looking more radiant than ever. And with her present weight of 47kg for her 168cm frame, I guess that's pretty decent ba. 32B-25-35. Isn't really that bad, I guess. And my cousin is dying to have my legs, so I guess they must be pretty nice. Yup... And I've changed my parting in my hair which people are saying that that makes me look nicer, so well...
Conclusion: 75% accomplished
But no girl would be satisfied with what they have. So Joan shall continue in her attempt to eliminate all acne from her face and all evidence that they were once plaguing her. Also on the cards is a reform in her dressing. Use clothes to bring out Joan's most beautiful side.

7. finish up everything im doing halfway
>>When I wrote this it was in direct reference to the writings I was doing and have been doing throughout my free time. Sadly to say, my completed works still remain as measely as ever. Gina is say 20% done, Scarlet Flight still 30% more to go, ya, and I'm even starting on something new, Diamond Dog even though I've yet to clear up what are still hanging on a thread. Really sad... But Joan did Separate Lives, so I guess that's a big accomplishment to her ba...
Conclusion: 10% accomplished
Yup... Need I say anymore?! 2005 will be Gina, Scarlet Flight and Diamond Dog.

8. be a more fanatical fan of faye and wubai
>>After initial fevour of giving out their CDs as birthday presents to my friends, I fell into oblivion and missed out on the birthdays od friends borned in the second half of the year. I also didn't buy Wubai's latest CD as promptly as I think I should. But I did go for Faye's autogragh sessions and I did go to watch 2046 as support for Faye Wong, but I don't really think I should receive that much credit.
Conclusion: 50% accomplished
I MUST continue with my mission for the spread of the Wubai and Faye faith in my people in the next year!

9. perm my hair
>>Straight as ever. Untouched by hairdressers. Said.
Conclusion: 0% accomplished
Not thinking of perming my hair now. But really thinking of getting my hair cut into something more stylish. 2005, that will be it.

10. get my ears pierced
>>Yup! I've got the holes as proof, but it sucks man. Never will I go through this torture ever again.
Conclusion: 100% accomplished
I will NEVER do it again. To think that my sis went to get another hole again. I think she's mad.

Disclaimer

Disclaimer

Why do I need a disclaimer? Especially at this point in time?
I've been horribly misunderstood!

First things first.
This piece though was titled A Conversation is nothing more than a MONOLOGUE.
Yes, Joan and Ping are technically the SAME PERSON.

Another important matter.
This is absolutely fictional!
It is a figment of Joan's over-reactive imagination.
I only named my characters Joan and Ping because I wanted people to see that technically they are the same person, but some people really thought that I was talking to myself. Really, I would have named my characters Alan and Sheng if you guys all know who's Alan Lim Li Sheng. Okay, actually, I've no idea who's he either. haha...

So why did Joan write that piece?

Because she always wanted to write a monologue.
She always wanted to write a mind-fiddling monologue.
So this very day when she had the time and feel, after watching some pretty mind-fiddling shows by dear charlie kaufman, she decided to pick up her pen, okay, laptop, and start writing away.

Maybe I should also add on and answer a few faqs.

Who is Godot?
No one in particular. In fact, I'm even doubting if he's human. He's more of an object that's personified ba...

What is Godot?
I dont know. Maybe someone should ask Samuel Beckett. I used the term Godot with his reference cos technically they are both the same abstract and also so that I could fit in my quotes.

What happened to you?
Nothing happened to me!
As mentioned before, this is PURELY FICTIONAL! Yes.

Okay, do read it not for it's face value, try to think of what you want at this very moment and how far it is from your reach. Think of the mood I created and how it affects you. Try and think of how one person can simultaneously be both Joan and Ping. Think of the stand of them and where would you stand between them.

Contact me for an in depth discussion if you want!

A Conversation

A Conversation

Joan: Why aren't you asleep yet?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I think I'm waiting.
Joan: For what you are waiting for?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I think I'm waiting for Godot.

Joan: Why are you waiting for Godot?
Joan: Why don't you just let Godot come to you?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I hadn't really wanted to wait for Godot.
Ping: I mean, don't everyone wants Godot to look for them instead?
Joan: Ya, so why are you still here waiting?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Perhaps it's because Godot didn't come and look for me that I'm here waiting.
Joan: Why don't you go look for Godot instead?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I don't want to ba...

Joan: How long will you stay here waiting?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Perhaps until I can't take it anymore.
Joan: What will you do then?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Sleep over it?
Joan: And not attempt to look for Godot?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I mean, what use would it be if I managed to contact Godot but receive no reply in return?
Ping: Wouldn't that be very embarrassing?
Joan: Why would it be embarrassing?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: But it's like admitting a vulnerability.
Joan: Ya, I guess so.
Joan: But sometimes you can advance via retreating.

Joan: You should take control of your own life.
Joan: You should do what you want.
Joan: You should not leave your fate to Godot.
Ping: I don't know.
Joan: Yes, you know.
Joan: You shouldn't let one Godot ruin your life.
Joan: Go girl, go get a life.
Joan: Either you quit waiting for Godot or you just heck forget about Godot.
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: At this moment, I really had wanted Godot to come look for me.
Ping: But Godot did not appear.
Joan: So why don't you go look Godot up?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I don't dare to.
Ping: I think it might be better for me to forget about Godot.

Joan: You really want to quit waiting for Godot?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: It sure beats stoning here waiting for nothing.
Joan: What if Godot comes after you leave and can't find you?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: That's fate ba...

Joan: I wonder what's Godot doing now...
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: And don't want to know.
Joan: Why?
Joan: Aren't you curious?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I'm afraid of finding out things I don't want to find out.
Joan: Isn't that a bit like the ostrich?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Maybe a little.
Joan: So that means you really want to be an ostrich?
Ping: I don't know.

Joan: Really, my girl, what do you think dear Godot is thinking of right now?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Maybe Godot's thinking of how to get rid of my incessant disturbances?
Ping: Or maybe Godot's thinking of someone else?
Ping: Or maybe Godot just isn't thinking of anything in particular?
Ping: Maybe I'm just too sensitive.

Joan: If Godot is feeling happy now, I want you to feel two thousand times happier.
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Although I do want to feel so, I don't think I can make it.
Joan: I really want you to feel two thousand times happier than Godot.
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: Why two thousand, by the way?
Joan: It's a quote.
Joan: And this too...
Joan: One thousand is too little.
Joan: Of course, if you can feel more than two thousand times happier than Godot it would be better, won't it?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: To me, it doesn't really matter how I feel.
Ping: I will always feel better as long as Godot is not upset.

Joan: And Godot is letting you wait?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I don't think it's Godot's fault.
Ping: I mean, it was I who wanted to wait.
Joan: Why do you want to wait?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: It's something that my head can't work out.
Ping: I guess you would have to ask my heart.
Joan: Heart, why?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: My body isn't listening to the orders passed down from my brain.
Joan: I understand.
Joan: This happens.

Joan: What will you say to Godot when your wait is over?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I probably won't say much.
Ping: Don't really want Godot to know that I was waiting.
Joan: What a poor little thing you are.

Joan: What if Godot never arrives?
Joan: Will you go on waiting just like this?
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I don't know.

Joan: You will just ruin your life like that!
Joan: There's more to life than Godot.
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: I just know that right now, at this very moment, presently, what I want most is Godot.
Joan: What a fucker?!
Ping: I don't know.
Joan: Well, you should!
Joan: Really, why am I wasting so much time listening to your whinings?!
Ping: I don't know.
Joan: Quit it!
Joan: Stop acting blur!
Joan: You think you can get anything you want by acting blur or acting cute?!
Joan: Let me tell you once and for all, Godot will never come!
Joan: You can go on waiting and waiting and waiting.
Ping: I don't know.
Ping: How did you know?
Joan: I read it.

Joan: I think you are really fucked up.
Ping: I know.
Joan: Surprised you knew that too.
Ping: I know.
Ping: What other fucked up being can do two opposite things at one time?
Ping: To wait and not waiting for Godot at the same time.
Joan: Ya, I know.
Joan: Go girl, go have a rest.
Joan: You need it.
Joan: Perhaps Godot is just by the lamp beside the window.
Ping: That's another quote, is it?
Joan: Ya...

More Updates

Stupidity Symptoms 10
Joan was doing sound for a little production. When in the little control room with Friend, Friend complained that it was quite dark and he could not see his cue sheet very clearly. Joan told Friend to say that he is fridge, he is a fridge (in Chinese). "Wo shi bingxiang." Then Joan told Friend to open his mouth and use the little light to see. Friend went like, "hao leng ah..." Joan replied, "of course hao leng what. Ni shi bingxiang what..."

Updates in Joan's life...

* she is broke after 2 shopping trips buying the following:
1 pair of pants from Chaos
1 Conan comic
1 Wubai dvd
1 Winnie the Pooh soft toy
2 Fruitbasket comic (English version, so it's more expensive)
1 bracelet
1 gift pen
2 pens from Muji
1 handphone strap
1 history book on Hitler

and tomorrow there's another shopping trip lined up where she will definitely be buying the following:
1, or 2 seamless underwear
at least 3 packets of chilled sausages from Raffles Deli

* Joan's obsessed with her son and daughter.
She wants to sent her son to either VS, ACS I or worse case circumstance, DHS. And she wants to build a big garden with a maze and pond for her daughter.

* She went for a chinese drama camp and put up a little production.
In the meantime, she entertained everybody with the fridge joke, stories of her son and daughter and got aches in every part of her body.

* Joan fell in love with taking pictures on her little black handphone she named dark baby.
She is like taking pics of everyone and everything now. This is even though she has had camera phones for a little more than a year liao. Her previous phone was also a camera phone, but I think it's cos she bought the cable liao that made her able to take as many pics as she wants and to be able to keep all of them.

yup, friends, do call me up to have your photos taken with me!

The Merger

What the goddamn heck is blogger coming to?!

My blogger homepage is in chinese! And I dont understand half of it... Damn! My chinese isn't supposed to be that bad, but how come I can't understand much of what's up there?! And I'll be going off for my chinese drama camp like two days later, what if I can't understand the chinese they use there then how?! Ohmygod! I need to practise my chinese like right now, if not I'll be alienated in the camp. Bu ke yi, wo yao jiang hua yu. Dan shi, ni men ting de dong wo zhe yang de hua yu ma?

Heck that la...

Was thinking what should I talk about today. Was deciding between my current favourite TV shows, the slew of channel U programmes like Jie Da Huan Xi (Virtues of Harmony) like how cute is Frankie Lam (Lin Wenlong) or say my Bixuejian (Crimson Sabre) cute cute Kong Wah (Jiang Hua) and Lin Jiadong, or the reality programmes little Joan has become so addicted to like Amazing Race and Survivor, especially after today's Amazing Race, I'd wanted to talk about Jonathan and Victoria, but then, I've decided not to be that shallow.

So the topic of the day would be the merger of SPH and Mediacorp and the fate of the employee, in particular, the SPH artistes.

Offered a transfer to Mediacorp TV Holdings:

- Adam Chen
Good for him. I'm sure he'll do fine there. Jiayou ba!

- Michelle Chia
Well, she's so hot, Mediacorp can't afford to lose her.

- Celest Chong
Ditto. Just caught her in O. Her performance seems quite good. Yup, think that she's very pretty too. Ya, and Mediacorp can help her cut an album and earn more money from the dumb Taiwanese people. Okay, I'm digressing a bit, just thinking about the dumb Taiwanese people who are going to buy Sylvester's album. haha...

- Quan Yifeng
I think this is a big big joke. They sacked her. And she turned to SPH who made her big. Now that she's big, apparently Mediacorp want her back. How pathetic can Mediacorp be?!

- Guo Liang
Clap our hands. Let's not hear any more from pathetic hosts in Channel anymore. Mark Lee was bad enough, then that weird guy Chen Jianbin is the ultimate. Channel 8 needs people like Guo Liang if not, my chinese will just remain like what you people had experienced earlier.

-Apple Hong
Seems like Mediacorp are just sweeping up the cute young things from SPH.

- Hu Bing
Ditto. Not that I find him cute. But apparently many blind girls out there do. And the dumb Taiwanese people I'd been harping on.

- Eelyn Kok
Ditto.

- Ann Kok
Ditto. But I need to add. Ann can never regain her San Jie status anymore.

- Ezann Lee
Ditto. She's young, she's cute, she's fresh, just good for those idol dramas Channel 8 wants to emmulate from the Taiwanese to earn their fast cash. Remember, they are dumb. Technically, they are not really dumb cos they can shout very very loudly, more like they are blind.

- Darren Lim
He's got talent. I've got nothing to add, just hope that Mediacorp knows how to make good use of talent.

- Kym Ng
I'm betting that she'll regain her status as the Ah Jie of variety shows and kick counterpart Sharon Au to her long awaited and procrastinated studies so that I need not cringe whenever she comes on the tv screen.

- Wang Ailing
Well, even though I've the telly plugged into my belly button, I honestly have no idea who this girl is, so I can't say much about her.

- Adrain Pang
Put him in Channel 5! There's a lack of quality actors there. Channel 5 seems to be poaching lots of can't speak english Channel 8 actors cos of there apparent lack of it and Adrian will fit just nicely there. The only halfway decent Channel 5 programme with decent english is First Touch and I want more of it, but where is it?!

- Lynn Poh
Cute young thing. Definitely want to get the contract.

- Ix Shen
Actually I was quite shocked cos he seemed over the hill for Mediacorp even though he really can act. Remember, he beat Christopher Lee in the Star Search eons ago? haha... Actually I remember it cos I'm still sore over it.

-Constance Song
She didn't really had much of a career when she was back in Mediacorp but I really hope that after her decent outing in SPH, she'll make it big again.

- Bryan Wong
Yup. There's a big gap in Channel 8's vairety programmes, just look at Top Fun, don't you just want to puke at Chen Jianbin?

- Ben Yeo
My favourite! Ah Ben! And he not only beats all the Channel 8 hosts flat, he can act! He can make up for some cute guy in some idol dramas Channel 8 so want to produce. Ah Ben! I'll support you wherever you go!

- Helen Cheung
I don't watch news. Okay, actually, I do, but I prefer Wang Yanqing.

Offered a postition at SPH:

- Wang Yanqing (print)
Actually, I personally think that this move is to prevent the newscasters from losing their jobs and I really pity them cos I prefer the Channel U newscasters to the Channel 8 ones with the exception of Huang Xiuling. Yes, people, the TV set is so plugged into me that I do watch the news.

- Lina Ng (marketing)
I'm totally disappointed that she didn't get the Mediacorp contract cos she really can act.

- Evelyn Tan (circulation)
Ditto

- Chew Huoy Min (print)
She is cuter than Huang Xiuling. Really, I'd rather have her read out news than say Cai Ying, or my most hated Channel 8 newscaster, Qi Qi! I hate Qi Qi! Her chinese sucks! Really, Mediacorp should have sacked the incompetent people from stable to let in the competent people from the other company.

Artistes out of work:
I really pity them. Sending my condolences over to them.

- Ann Poh
Anyway, she would have been typecast in Channel 8, but still, I feel rather sad to see her leave just like that. I mean, on any grounds, she is still a better compere than Patricia Mok.

- Chen Huihui
Some rumours are floating that Mediacorp is making use of this merger to get back at artistes who walked out on them to gloat over their apparent superiority. And Chen Huihui is damn good an actress. I'm like catching her again on Channel 8 5.30 in that rerun of the show.

- Erica Lee
Ditto. Unlike her younger sister Ezann, she's no longer young and cute. And her snub on Mediacorp eons ago is back to haunt her.

- Cherie Lim
I never liked her. And she's really stale liao, so I'm not going to say much.

- Liu Qiulian
Her acting is really good, pity she's old liao. Haiz...

- Wang Liuyan
Never heard of her.

- Adrain Lim
Never heard of him.

- Bernard Tan
He can act. But he's stale. Pity...

- Benjamin Heng
I'm damn damn damn shocked that he wasn't offered the contract. I love you, Chen Guangwei! Ah Seow! I guess, we'll have to see him in dunno what little little productions only. Really, is Mediacorp blind?! They're like giving up a potential Idol lor... He has all the makings to make it big.

- David Leong
Never heard of him.

- Darren Seah
Ditto.

- Dick Su
Ditto.

- Johnson Low
Ditto.

- Li Wenhai
He's also in that rerun of a show that i'm catching at 5.30. Pities to him.

- Shaun Chen
My second biggest surprise after Benjamin Heng. I think it's Mediacorp's way of getting back at him after he snubbed them after they made him big as Xiaoxing. He's also in that 5.30 rerun. He's cute. My advice to him, Shaun, head for Taiwan! You can be big there.

- Peter Yu
Stale actors are so over liao.

- Xavier Teo
Never heard of him.

- Wymen Yong
Who the heck is this person?! I dont even know if this person's a he or a she!

Artistes on retainer who were not offered a transfer:
I don't really understand what this means

- Catherine Tan
Does this means that they might be given jobs on project basis? Well, really, I think Channel 5 needs this pool of girls sia.

- Cynthia Lee
She says she has been offered some projects so I guess I won't pity her that much. After all, there is life in the english drama scene in Singapore. All my best wishes to these girls!

- Pamela Oei
I just don't understand why Mediacorp don't want to take them in? They could use some talent in Channel 5. Channel 5 shows just sucks man. Wonder why am I still watching them...

- Steph Song
Really, Rui'en should just go back to Channel 8 and/or Taiwan. Rui'en looks really fat in Steph's Achar! Steph should have reprised her role sia and not have Rui'en taking it up. Rui'en, chubby cuteness might let you get by in the chinese channel cos we all know Taiwanese people are blind and dumb, but Channel 5 people are comparatively more matured and sensible and won't go for you. Give me back Steph.

In all, fuck Mediacorp in their horribleness of their handling of this whole merger affair. Really, this is an unfair merger. If this was truly a fair merger, then I expect to see incompetent Mediacorp artistes kena retrenched by them, but did we see snything like this? No... Fuck you Mediacorp!

In light of this merger, I only have one wish. I want to see through all the programmes i'm currently watching now. I want to finish watching my Virtues of Harmony. I think my Crimson Sabre will end by then anyway. I also want to continue watching those 11.30 variety programmes now on Channel U like the three Jacky Wu shows, Hello Jacky, The Guess Show, and IQ Go Go Go. Hope that isn't too much to ask for.

I wonder what will life be like after the merger. If we will be gonna left with Channel 8 and the pathetic shows they produce than I think I'm gonna die. Like how am I to live with My Mighty In-Laws, or Double Happiness II which really undercuts the original version. Without Hong Kong drama serials, I think I'm so going to die.

Maybe I shouln't have wrote all these in my blog. I should be writing in to the press! They can publicise my plight and hopefully I can get something out of it!

Thank you!

The past week has been an extremely difficult week for me. Many things happened and I was both emotionally and physically strained. But during this time, many friends came up to me to offer me help, condolences, emotional support, and made me feel more less pained.

I'd really like to use this opportunity to thank all those who had shown their care and concern to a little nobody like me. All your little kind acts and gestures have really touched me and i'd really appreciated that. Be it vis msn or a little sms or a call to comfort me, i really really appreciated it.

Thank you!

It's really heartening to know that even though your sky had fallen down on you there's still a group of friends helping to hold up half the sky.

To all my friends, from the bottom of my heart, I really really love all of you guys.
