Analysis on Joan's Writings

Okay, I'm starting to write a blow by blow analysis on my writing again, so hopefully this time round Blogger doesn't eat up my posts, and I can also orgainse my ideas properly and can give a better account of my writings.

Note: Spoiler Alerts! If you are planning on enjoying my writings without me giving away details and other spoiler notes, please skip this whole entry.

Before I start, I'll give a brief idea on what my short stories are about. Currently, I'm writing two collections of short stories Parallelogram and Prozac Nation, the ones you see in my blog will be in Prozac Nation. In this collection, I did away with conventional naming of characters instead using the generic he and she in replacement. Maybe it'd be better if you would read them carefully before attempting any comments.

http://jal4eva.blogspot.com/2006/03/can-we-return-to-old-times-again.html

As I was saying, I'm trying out this particular syle of writing which I think suits me quite well. In it I actually used third person's point of view to try bring out a frist person's point of view of feelings. I have a protagonist, in the first three stories would be the "she" and in the last one the "he", the counterpart would be the antagonists. In my utopian world I would actually like to have my readers following the protagonist in his/her way of life and feels from him/her the emotions that vary along with the change in circumstances.

The circumstances I've described mainly touch on sexual relationship and depression issues. Actually the relationships aren't really purely sexual per se, because of the other mixed emotions felt by both characters. In neither of my short stories have I actually written any description of sexual intercourse. I'm in no position to write anything of such, so I'm not writing about it. I don't understand how would anyone even the most unpolished of all readers to consider my writing as erotic. I do go a bit into the descriptions, but that's only to state the tense situations that my characters face.

I'd like to say that my short stories are very real. You can see them happening to people in real life, and I discuss real life issues, yes, some are sexual issues, but to call them erotic issues, I guess that person really has no understanding of literature. General themes that I'll be discussing in my collection of short stories, Prozac Nation includes modern people with a modern lifestyle having a modern outlook on sex and relationships, and how that affects the mental and emotional wellbeing of themselves.

I shall examine the stories in greater detail, starting from Can We Return To The Old Times Again? because that literature idiot needs help in understanding the underlying themes of the story, maybe due to his head being clouded by mere sex.

As the title suggests, and this entry http://jal4eva.blogspot.com/2006/02/insight-dedicated-to-wei.html that I earlier mentioned. This story is an exploration of relationships between a pair of fuck buddies and if there was a chance that they could put down their relationship as fuck buddies to go back to the times when they were good platonic friends.

I started off with a simple introduction mandatory to all excerpts if not no one would be able to understand head or tail of my story. Then I went straight into some pretty graphic descriptions of their acts together when they as fuck buddies meet up. Maybe it was the graphic details that excited that poor anonymous reader, but I shall argue with my usage of graphic details. This is a narration, a descriptive short story, what else can it be without the use of graphic descriptions? Also, the bold use of such descriptions mirror the boldness of my protagonist. As I mentioned earlier on, I would like my readers to follow in accordance with my characters, so there is a need to excite the readers as my protagonist was excited.

Now to think of that, for that anonymous person to think that way, in a sense also proves my success in creating that atmosphere, only that that poor guy was too dense to think any much further. Wait, now to think of it, I don't know if Anonymous is a male or female... hehehe~ I'd assume is a male then, since guys think with their dickheads instead of their brains. If that Anoymous is indeed a female, erm... apologies~

In the short story, there was an over excessive usage of the term "fuck". I don't know if that offends anybody, but I do think I have enough supporting reasons to continue my usage of "fuck". Note, this issue is about fuck buddies, if they don't fuck then what else can they do?

Maybe the biggest flaw in this story is that I decided to write using the point of view of "he" instead of "she". But then again, as such I can truly bring out the subtleness of my "she" character with the way "he" portrays her out to be. Every one of her act is a sign of something that she wish she could convey to him without verbally telling him to do so, but as we follow the actions and the feelings of him, we understand that he was unable to catch those subtle hints. Put that in real life, how many girls often do little little guestures to receive a blank look from a guy then only exclaiming out loud, "Why don't you understand?"

To put in in plain words, from the point of view of she, she doesn't want to continue being fuck buddies with him anymore, but she doesn't want to blatantly reject him because she might have fallen for him or that she still respects him as a good platonic friend when they aren't fucking each other. But from the he point of view, she is only making a fuss out of nothing, and probably he think sthat she is but playing hard to get, sort of a seduction kind of act and he puts that forward to us with his words.

To the guys, just ask yourselves, how often do you let your other head take control of your actions? Pretty often I guess.

I'm pretty indignant about that Anonymous' use of the adjective "trashy" to describe my writings. The Chinese have this saying 把鱼翅当作粉丝,把鱼漂当作猪皮 which I guess that's what aptly describes what that person is doing. If you don't understand Chinese, it is loosely translated into "treating sharks' fin as vermicelli, and treating fish maw as pig skin". But wellI have to understand that some people aren't really trained in the literature sense. To give that guy some credit, maybe he's some genius who's able to count pi to the 42nd decimal? Who knows? Just that it's pretty hurting to hear from some outsider who thinks they're so smart to comment on anything, even those outside their professional knowledge. Really, if you are able to point of critical points regarding my stories, I'm gladly able to accept them, in fact, I welcome them.

Next is symbolism in my stories, with regard to Can We Return To The Old Times Again?, there is a rampant use of symbolism, the couch and the bed, the DVDs, the rooms and the kitchen. I don't want to list out all the symbols and tell outright what those symbols come to mean, I'd prefer for my readers to figure this out themselves.

From a literature point of view, I have yet come across any writer who writes in a style similiar as mine, so I don't understand how anyone could say I'm "influenced by certain novellists(sic)", but I can't say I'm not either. As Quentin Tarantino once said (don't quote me on this, I might have got my sources mixed up) that nothing in this world is a fresh idea, all ideas are reused periodically, it's how you put the ideas together and express them that make it look fresh. But nonetheless, I have one reference I need to give credit to.

I got the idea of using the DVDs as a symbol after watching Brokeback Mountain. Before that when I first plotted the story, it was just him going over to her house for a chat or some other mundane stuff, i didn't really give him a blatant, open, outright excuse. After watching Jack and Ennis use fishing as an excuse to get together for their tyrsts, I thought it would be quite symbollic to use DVDs as an excuse given the backgrounds of these two characters. Note, this hasn't been disclosed yet, but she is an actress by profession, and he is a movie journalist.

The ending to the story is also the answer to the question title. The answer is simply, no.

I compare this extract of a short story to my other extract, Sorry. It's also about sexual relationships, just that that tone of depression is heavier than this. This is to emphasise on the use in protagonist. For all we know, I can always merge these two stories together and have the events of Sorry coming after the events of Can We Return To The Old Times Again?

I wrote Yesterday And Today and 9 Months on impluse, hence they're longer and more wholesome as a story. Someone commented that 9 Months is very typical of an encouraging story for mothers. I agree with that too, maybe I can redraft it again to make the ending a bit the different. Yesterday And Today is more narrative, and it's a point I want to make on Valentine's Day. There are a couple of intentional loopholes in the story, someone pointed that out to me, and I explained it was intentional. hehehe~ Quite happy that my points actually got through to at least one person.

In Yesterday And Today I mentioned that he and she was meeting for the first time on 14.2.2005, but before that they knew each other, but not met up yet. How did they know each other is but an open question for the readers to make up themselves.

A little bit more about my Prozac Nation project. The main aim for my writing is to instill depression into everybody. hahaha... One day all my readers will be under the control of Prozac to stay mentally healthy. Yea... That sounds a bit bullshitting, so ignore me.

I'm very tired now, from analysing all my works. I don't know if I've missed out any stuff from the blog post that disappeared, but anything else you want to direct at me, but don't want others to see your stupidity, can direct to my mailbox. I promise I'll only laugh at it and not bring it out to laugh.

Sheer Sheer Ignorance

Remember a previous post I had regarding an Anonymous comment?
This one here, http://jal4eva.blogspot.com/2006/03/reply-to-another-anon.html? I said, "I don't know why I still allow anonymous comments."

Today, upon receiving yet another Anonymous comment, I realised one thing, I still allow those anonymous comments just to prove that there are a lot more ignorant fools in this world wide web than we all realise.

Comment of the Day:
Anonymous said...
you're an erotica writer?
the part is a bit trashy but maybe you are influenced by certain novellists?
erm... not that there's anything wrong about writing about sex acts or anything just that as a preview you might want to give readers more than just eerr erotic themes? ; ) t.
11:13 PM

I know in my side column I listed my pet peeve as ignorant fools, but seriously, sometimes they just make me laugh because of their sheer denseness.

Okay, I must be nice, I shouldn't go on laugh about other people's unpolished minds. Maybe they hadn't been through literature classes back in their school days. Maybe don't understand literature stuff. Maybe they just are not literature people. Yea... I mean this is the internet, right? Those people who hang out around here all day long aren't really that interested in literature, right? So I should give them a benefit of doubt~

To enlighten those unpolished minds, I shall give a basic 101 introduction to literature. Writing styles differ from one writer to another, right now, mine's mainly using third person's style of writing in a first person setting kind of narration.

What is first person and what is third person? And since there is a first and third person, there should also be a second persond, right? The answer to the latter is yes. First person's writing is the usage of "I". Today I went to the beach, I ate a lot of crabs, I whatever whatever. Autobiographies are all first person writings. Some authors also use first person's writing to invoke greater response and emotions from their readers. The downside using that would therefore be that viewpoints of the narration would be narrow, only from the narrator's point of view.

Third person is

*damn* blogger ate up my post!!! I'm not going to type everything again, neither am I go to give my blow by blow analysis fit for a seminar paper again.

and formulate the themes again.

I shall say it's only about stagnanted relationships and depression, mostly pertaining to women. If I've the time tonight maybe I'll come up with another blow by blow analysis.

Can We Return To The Old Times Again?

I've been meaning to write a short story on fuck buddies ever since I wrote this piece, but never got around writing it because I'm lazy. Finally I decided that it should wait no more lest it disappears in my blackhole of imagination forever. But since I'm not in a writing state tonight, I've got a test tomorrow, a football match to watch at 3.30am later, a movie review that I want to put up later too, and my wireless connection is dc-ing again, my mouse is not working, and loads of other problems, I shall write an excerpt instead of a full short story.

If you don't plan on buying my book in the near future, please at the very least go http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/ and vote for me. Thank you very much. Of course, you can always vote and buy my book, I'd thank you even more.

Can We Return To The Old Times Again?
(an excerpt)

The story so far: He has a girlfriend, she is single but not looking for anyone. His girlfriend knows that she is his friend. In fact, he knew her long before he met his girlfriend.

They were lounging on a couch in her house watching a DVD together. He sat on one while she sat on the other end, but they were not that separated given that it was a two seater couch. It was an art house film.

Halfway into the film, he leaned over on her shoulder, eyes still gazed on the flatscreen playing the movie. The last time he was over for a movie, they ended up fucking on that couch. Now to think about it, the last couple of times also ended with them making a loveseat out of that couch. In fact, everytime he brought a DVD over to her house it meant he wanted sex from her. Maybe she knew his intentions, and made sure that he only came over to her place for a movie only when she wanted sex too.

Subconsciously, he did what he felt like doing, which mirrored what he did everytime he was over with a DVD in hand. He reached out his hand and kneaded her breast, but his eyes were still afixed on the plasma screen. She reached out for his other hand and brought it around her, eyes never once left the television screen too.

A handphone rang.

She hesitated. But after a slight deliberation, she picked up the handphone lying on the coffee table and passed it over to him. He too paused in front of the phone before reaching for it. He glanced at the screen and picked up the call. His head still nestled on her shoulder and he still had a hand on her breast. She contented herself in the fantasy of the movie.

"Yes?" he asked into the phone.

She made sure the surround system of the movie floated over the other end of the phone connection before picking up the remote control and hitting the pause button.

"Can I call you back later? After the film. No, wait, I think maybe I'll call you tonight."

She brushed his hand away from her breast. She straightened herself from her position, forcing him to remove his head from her shoulder. Not the least, she got up from the couch and went to the kitchen.

He stared at her as she walked away half listening to what was said by the person on the other end of the phone. One was the girl he was in love with, another was the girl he was making love with, which did he really wanted? Maybe at that very moment, he was her instead of his girlfriend, but maybe it was only for that passing moment.

"I'm sorry. I'll call you back tonight, okay?" with the he ended the call. He knew that his girlfriend knew that he meant it if he puts the call down, so it was no use calling him again.

He looked across the living room searching for a sign of her. But she was nowhere to be seen. He knew she hated it when his girlfriend came between the both of them. It was his fault that she was always putting up a false front on front of his girlfriend.

He went into the kitchen to look for her, he thought he had seen her walking to the kitchen when she left him. She wasn't there.

Her apartment wasn't really that big, two bedrooms and the large living room which was originally two rooms made into one, and the kitchen. If she was not in the kitchen, there was only one other place she could be. It excited him to think about where she could be. Maybe, for once they could make love on something else other than the couch?

"Hey baby..." he greeted as he opened her bedroom door.

"Isn't your baby on the phone with you?" she retorted sacarstically.

He hadn't expected that phone call affected her this much. Momentarily he was at a loss for words, he couldn't disagree with her because they all knew that he called his girlfriend his baby, but agreeing with what she said was a bigger no no. In the end, he opted for not saying anything, and joined her on her large bed. Even under this circumstance, he had still hoped that maybe he was going to get lucky tonight.

Should he hug her, kiss her, or just caress her parts? He thought. Although he didn't know what to do, he knew perfectly well what he souldn't be doing, and that was to say anythign more to her. Instead he opted for doing all three.

He hugged her first before planting his lips full on her, then reaching out his hands and caressing all about her. Initially she resisted. But he felt confident that what he was doing was the right thing to do that he held her in him more tightly and overcame her resistance. This happened once before. They were making out on the couch when he received a message from his girlfriend. She looked over and saw it, and chided him for being disloyal to his girlfriend. He said he wasn't being disloyal, and that ended that night effectively. She made him leave without the DVD in hand. After that occasion, they talked about it. She told him, from the perspective of a female friend of his, that that wasn't the way to handle a girl, and she went on to tell him what he should be doing. He thought that she had successfully displaced herself as two different personas to him.

That night, he didn't wanted a fuck very badly, that he let his subcounscious body doing everything he remembered from her lecture. Naturally, she succumbed. He got lucky.

"That was what I once told you to do in such a circumstance, wasn't it?" she asked him tersely.

Slowly, he reclaimed his consciousness. He did felt guilty about what he just did, but he wasn't about to say so, he knew that she knew it and he wasn't about to get into another teary session with her about what they are to each other. He was tired and all he wanted was a little snooze.

During that nap, he dreamt. He dreamt about the past, when they were the best of friends during their school days. He dreamt of the time when he met his girlfriend too, and the times they had together, and him not wanting to touch his girlfriend till they got married. Then he dreamt of the night when they first watched a DVD in her new apartment, on her new couch, using her new home theatre system, and how much he wanted just her that night.

He woke up in a start.

He had his arms around her. As he slowly studied her face, this thought came into him, maybe he should come around her place with a DVD less often.

But this thought usually just disappears the next time he touches a new DVD.

Vote Reset

From http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/, is the following announcement:

Monday, March 06, 2006
Vote Reset!

Dear Finalists and readers of the Finalist blogs, due to a technical error in the processing of the polls, the number of votes have been resetted. There have been instances of cheating by some voters due to a security loophole in the voting system. The Blogfest Committee will continue to find a solution to this problem, but for the moment, voting has been limited to ONE vote per account.

If you have already submitted your vote, do go to LiveWire and vote again for your favourite blog. In the future, we will try to reinstate the option of one vote per day, but the technical aspects will have to be solved first. The Committee will continue to monitor the votes, and any votes cast by multiple accounts created for the sake of voting will be deleted from the final tally.

Enjoy the fine writings of our Finalists! And, look out for the publicity posters and lecture announcements going around NUS... Good luck!

So with the above announcement, it seems like the system is not really lousy, but it was an intentional move. Anyway, the file Eugene korkor sent me was this:

I think quite interesting leh... Eugene korkor managed to cast the first vote of the new voting process~ And his vote was cast for me somemore~

So people, since everything's starting all over again, please can vote for me all over again? Thanks~

I is Sibeh Hungry Fella

During German class this evening, and like most other German classes I have, I'd make some noise when there's nothing to do and say my standard line "Ich habe Hunger!" Cindy should fully understand my idiocyncracies. hahaha~

This evening, there was no Cindy, but there was Xinli and Yingfong. Then we started a discussion of Rotiprata mit Eis.

Then later, just about an hour ago, I was online with the other Cindy, and we started talking about cravings. She had cravings for Pizzahut. Thinking through, I started listing down a list of my cravings...

seafood pasta
seafood pizza
chicken supreme pizza
xiaolongbao (how can a list of Joan's cravings exclude my xlb?)
hargao
siewmai
peking duck
sashimi
salmon
salmon sashimi
famous amos cookies
sausages
chicken wings
fish and chips

I want to eat so many things but I only have one stomach, not to mention a small purse. What should I do leh...

Cindy mentioned something that got me thinking. She asked me if I was eating so much because of my depression. I know I've always had diet problems, but to put it this way seems a bit weird, because the last two times I lasped into severe depression I went on days without eating anything. My record is three days without food. But after a bout, I'd always turn to eating more. Maybe I eat to cure depression, but for severe cases, I'd go hungry. I'm of extreme ends.

Still on the sushi and sashimi craze. I got this horrendous craving for fish ever since last Friday watching Survivor Panama Exile Island. That disgusting Cirie who was afraid of leaves and what's under the leaves gave another stunner by saying that she's afraid of raw fish too. "I never had sushi in my life. I don't know if I'm going to wake up with a horrible stomach problem tomorrow." I gagged. But watching them eat those raw fish made me crave for sashimi even more.

After Cindy left, I started chatting with Eugene korkor. Two nocturnal animals who are always hungry ended up as usual talking about food. It started with this picture first, which I used as my MSN display picture.
250px-Sashimi
He asked me to take that picture down.

The conversation turned to one which we decided to go eat sakae buffet tomorrow. Like all other no life people who hang online 24/7, the first point of research is to hit the internet to check out the price for Sakae's sushi buffet.

From the Sakae's webbie.

Buffet
I didn't know that there was no lunch time buffet in most places.
I didn't know I was also a student.
Then I realised that that tea time offer is student targeted, think of the time, 3-6, just nice end school but students not wanting to go home yet, then think of the student rates, and also the locations of the Sakaes, all in neighbourhood (think: school) areas.

Then I caught sign of this other promotion.
untitled
Teppanyaki sounds so yummy. I'm hoping that slowly Sakae will bring it into the other Sakaes with Teppanyaki outlets (read: Parkway).

But this other promotion lagi caught my eye.
supperbuffet
At my favourite shopping centre, a nice ungodly hour, with sustenence, and also the free red plate special. The only downside, I don't think I can really eat that much in 2 hours, maybe if it's a three hour thing then it'll be more worthwhile. But then again, this promotion only means one thing to me. My Marina Square is fast becoming a hub, a hub for nocturnals, which is very good! Can go watch late night movies, then get a drink then have some fish.

Okay, me shall buy my fish tomorrow, in my second favourite shopping centre. Then I can shunbian pick up my last Body Shop brush to make my set complete. Maybe pop by MPH and get some good reads, maybe can pop by the food court to get the dim sum.

And not to forget the Famous Amos cookies and Jack and Jill potato chips. OMG... I'm getting nervous just by thinking about it. I cannot cannot bear to see my team lose. We've been rubbing everyone the wrong way lately, so if we lose we'd really lose very badly and everybody will make fun of us.

*cross fingers*

Hope history can repeat itself, repeat from our feat from the last season. If not, please can I have that gorrilla guy to get into a freak accident and render him unable to make it for the match tomorrow. And please have my dear Lamps to be fully fit.

Reply to another Anon

I don't know why I still allow anonymous comments.

I'd like to clarify a couple of things to this particular anonymous whoever that person is. I am not spoilt, okay, maybe I am spoilt, at times, but I don't get whatever I want. I always believe in one thing, karma. What goes around comes around. Some might say I have money I can spend, I can be happy, but am I really happy? People want things they can't have. I know what I can't have. And I need these material stuff to fill up the void in me.

I don't spend unnecessarily, my friends all know that. I'm the kind of person who only takes the bus all around Singapore because I have bus concession and I don't want to pay extra for MRT. But it doesn't matter if you don't know, there is no reason for you to know about this anyway.

Actually I don't even think you'd be reading this post because apparantly you aren't a regular here, if not you'd know that I'm definitely not someone who's act cute, or who whines incessantly, but because I feel in incensed, maybe I thought it might be better for me to clarify myself, lest some other people get the wrong idea of me.

Maybe things all boil down to the green eye syndrome. We always see others being better than us and we aren't happy about it. Sometimes I feel the same way too sometimes, yea... I'm guilty of it too, so I aren't reprimanding that ignorant person. We all are different people, save some value judgement on people, maybe you can feel happier.

Well, to that guy, if you think I'm not worthy of your vote, then so be it. I'm not begging anyone to vote for me. If it does sound like I'm begging, then I guess you over flatter yourself.
http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/
I'm just posting the link for people who really do care about voting for me to vote for me, if they want to. The bulk of my readers are lurkers anyway.

Thinking about it, I have never posted an anonymous comment. What's the use of saying something yet hiding behind a veil? Like in emails, flaming wars, the most ineffective tool is sending anonymous hate mails.

The Fragilities of Human Relationships

再回头你不许如曾经不登对
你何以双眼好像流泪

They were once a pair of close friends, knowing almost everything of each other. But everything changed over a single night. What prompted that change? What estranged them? Nothing more than a series of misunderstandings.

What sort of misunderstanding would estranged them, from once being so close? No one knows. Sometimes, you think you can trust a person wholly, and be friends for life, just because you know the other party understands, but in fact, you really don't know. Yes, in some ways you might be able to trust that friend, but if over a slightest matter of misunderstanding that was not going to be resolved, what's up next?

If two estranged friends meet, maybe along the road, what would happen? There was but a sense of non-recognition. Once friends who poured secrets to each other have become stragers who do not even bother smiling at each other. Not a friend, not an aquiantance, not even anybody they know.

*I'm thinking, should I write it in first person's view, or third person's. I hate times like this.*

I still remember the night very clearly. In fact, I remember everything. I even remembered what happened before. It was another emo night, a night I didn't want to have chatted with the friend because I was really tired. When I'm tired and can't get high, I get irritable easily, so usually I refrain from talking to anyone at nights like these, but that friend said until 1.20. I was hoping, maybe a little easing up of my mind would do me better, on hindsight, I guess that was bullshit.

Indignantly, I think, it was not even me who wanted to start on that topic, so why should I be blamed? Of course, life doesn't work like this.
已经结束了吗

The day after was a worse day emotionally than before. I ran into problems only my friends would understand, but I had now one friend less. This made me wonder, what is a friend. Is that friend really a friend? When the simplest of all understanding was no being able to reach, to not want to reconcile even though I tried to apologise. I didn;t really want to do anything after that. What more can I do without getting snubbed? I can't always be that much of a masochist, can I? Please save me some dignity.

你是不是还在,我们曾手掌紧贴过去和未来。

还是你早已放弃,我们坚持过的路。

I tried very hard to block everything out of my mind. Every day I tell myself if things were meant to be so, why should I even bother thinking about it, but this Joan is the same Joan who spent weeks getting upset of betrayals by close friends, so why this act of breaking of trust who differ?

I realised I can pretty much get anything I want from the people who care for me. From young, everytime I whined long enough, the parents would eventually relent, I knew that, coupled with promises that I'd always break, like being the good girl, finishing my homework early, I could get anything I wanted, as long as it was pretty reasonable. Some really useless stuff I got out of these tactics include an ice cream maker which I only used once, some ugly supposedly would talk and cry doll which I never really liked playing with. Some might say I am spoilt, but I know fully well that these things are within reach. I'd never ask for something outside my reach.

hmm... Can I ask for votes for the blogfest thingie, I wonder?

As far as everybody knows, I'm extremely satisfied with my handphone I bought 21 months ago. A Nokia 6230.
IMG_6823
Before that I was carrying a Nokia 3200. It was a few months old phone but the value was dropping rapidly, and the phone wasn't that functionable. When my plan expired, and with my whole family getting new phones since everyone's plans expired, I got mine upgraded to the 6230. It was the best Nokia phone out at that time, and I totally digged it. It had everything I wanted and needed. Bluetooth, mp3 player, camera, video, radio.

Check this out for the full features.
The only regret I have with this phone was that I bought it earlier than the upgrading of the phone into the 6230i version.

But anyway, I still loved my phone. I bought fake covers which looked totally ugly to decorate it, before I reverted it back to it's original dignity. I bought handphone straps to accessorise it. I even bought a $88 cable to do PC suite and the uploading and downloading of files, namely photos and songs. Then came the biggest thing I bought for it. A 512mb memory card. I use my phone as a camera, an mp3 player, an alarm clock, and almost anything I needed. Especially with the 512mb memory card. I also pinned up ringtones to fit my mood. That phone is totally my phone.

Then as the 21 months came nearing, I hadn't really had any intention of changing my phone, but my sister wanted a 3G phone, and Singtel had this promotion of which the second 3G phone you buy would get you a $200 discount, which makes the phones cheaper by $100 each. My sister persuaded me to get the same phone as she wanted. The Nokia N70. Reviewing all the bulky 3G phones, this was the only one which appealled to me. 2megapix camera, bluetooth, mp3, and most importantly, it was a Nokia candy bar phone. All my previous handphones were all Nokia candy bar phones, 6110, 8310, 3200, 6230, and now the N70. I'm a lazy girl, so it's a nono for me to get clamshells or slides.

Since I gave my word to my sister that I'd be getting that phone, I thought I was going to buy that phone. My birthday was over, the angpaus I collected was enough to my me two of those phones, so I thought, I really thought that I was going to buy the phone.

Then it turned out that the day my sister went to buy the phone, she went with my parents, and I guess my dad succumbed into the pleasures of having a new handphone which was touted to be so good. He bought the phone, and my sister's phone, and he bought another new Samsung non 3G phone but with camera and video functions for my mother. When he came back, he said perhaps I can get a new phone when I got back from Germany.

I guess I was pretty disappointed. I was quite looking forward to getting a new phone upon getting psyched up by my sister, but I understand. I am perfectly happy with my old phone, i can do so much with it, so I didn't questioned my dad. I don't think I even appeared to be very much interested in the new phones since I had other things on my mind, including an impending tuition.

That night, I did whine to my sister a bit. I asked her, I thought we were the ones getting new phones. She said actually my dad was planning to let me have the phone if I asked for it, but I didn't. After a little exchange, I didn't know what to do. My dad could use a new phone, and after all that he had spent on me for my birthday party, and my birthday gifts, not to mention my horrid display of spoiltness over the birthday diamond issue.

My mother was planning to get me a diamond for my 21st birthday, I told her I wanted a solitaire, but in the end she picked a necklace out for me without my approval. I was very disappointed. The necklace was 40% above budget, but I felt it was not me, it was so dainty and sweet, and I voiced my displeasure. I even asked if we could get it changed. In the end, we went back to the shop and instead of changing it, we bought another piece, a solitaire at 30% above budget. It's like them spending more than double on my present. I really felt bad.

So, my point over here is that, I really didn't want the parents to fork out any more on me even though I'm disappointed.

But after my tuition that day, my dad came over and asked if I wanted the phone. I guess my sister went off and rattled to my dad. I was a bit reluctant, but I guess I was a bit vain and did wanted a new phone when everybody had one. In the end, my dad when down to the shop the next day and got another one. Since it was the third one we bought, we still had $100 off for that phone, so it was quite worthwhile.

a view of the camera

In the background is an old sock, one of my Esprit towel socks. I brought my phone out the other day but was pretty freaked about throwing my phone into my bag and getting it squashed, so I pulled out a random old sock to protect it. I never had any handphone pouch ever since I bought my 8310, and I only used that for like a couple of weeks before I got lazy, so this is really an effort for me to preserve the love I know my parents shower onto me. But I still love my 6230 too.

A little advertorial here. I badly want to sell away my 512mb memory card to get a new memory card for my new phone since it's incompatible. It's a 512mb reduced sized multimedia card from Kingston and is 3.3v. I got it last May before I flew over to Germany and it has neverbeen removed from my phone since I first put it in, so no scratches no nothing. I'm fine with the price, just nothing too rock bottom. I'll remove all my materials inside, unless you want pictures of me (yea, right).

I'm planning to buy a bluetooth port for my laptop so I can sell away my Nokia cable too. Definitely not that the retail price, anything about the price of a bluetooth port would be enticing.

I don't think I'd be selling away my 6230 anytime soon, unless i get really good offers. I still would like to keep the memory intact and I have yet transferred my contacts over to my new phone, but I might hurry have and do it if the offer is great, and I'm also willing to put down my past, and leave all those messages from my phones and all those memories those messages can bring me, if the price is good. Ya, and another thing, I have FIFA2004 inside my 6230, if that's anything enticing for you.

I still have the box set, charger, earphones, and a 32mb memory card all in the box. If anyone wants the whole package, with the cable, and the 512mb card, I'm perfectly negotiable. Actually I think my phone's in a pretty good condition. I don't think I've ever dropped it. It doesn't hang on me, I think it only auto shutdown like once in two months but it'd auto on again so it's nothing big.

Similiarly, if anyone has a 512mb dual voltage RS-MMC, or MMCMobile card to sell, can email me. I'm looking for something almost brand new. Or if you have a brand new bluetooth port you bought but not used, still in package, I'm also negotiable. Oh yar, and I don't mind if I get more than one offer since the father and the sister want to get those add ons too.

Actually, that day I was sitting down and exploring my N70. I realised that there was this one thing that lacks from my phone that might make it a perfect phone. Wifi. If any handphone can pack in wifi too, I guess that would be totally perfect. But of course, it has to be from Nokia, a candy bar phone, has all those functions I have in my 6230 and my N70. I have wireless at home, and there is wireless like in school and everywhere, with wifi phone I can be always online. GPRS is expensive and damn slow for my liking, and I don't think I'd get a PDA because it looks pretty useless (why would I need an organiser when I won't use it and I'm totally disorganised that nothing is going to help me, why bother?).

I realised I ranted on and on so much about the phone but I missed reviewing the phones functions and usebility. Well, I have not been taking photos or downloading songs into it yet, although I did take some pictures and transferred one song to be used as my ringtone. The phone is pretty slow since it works using that new interface. Messaging and calling, no problems. Photo and song quality, no problem. Quite a standard Nokia phone to use, but I'm not used with the new keys the "C" button especially since I always tend to press the top right hand button instead. And I have yet figured how to put a wallpaper on my face, any tips people?

But in all, that phone packs a lot in a small package. My Canon will be getting pbsolete pretty soon if I were to going to rely on my handphone as camera. wahaha~

Brokeback Mountain

Postscript: I'm putting the postscript up here instead of down there because I'm pissed. I tried to add in my comments for IMDb, but they seem to not want my comments. They keep having errors that either my comments are too long or my summary is too long. Sucks... Yea... To sooth my anger, please vote for me here http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/ hor, by the way... Maybe I'll try IMDb again later.

Brokeback Mountain

I brought two underaged girls to watch this film. But I think it was only because of me, I think I look older than my age, thus making them look older too.

I think it was the Golden Globes that made me interested in watching this film. On the day of the Golden Globes, everyone was stunned that this Brokeback Mountain film won so many awards. Also it being billed as a love story between two cowboys, I decided that I must watch this film. But I was losing steam regarding this film simply because everyone is talking about it. I finally was pulled to watch it by the two girls who wanted to watch but were afraid of getting their ID checked.

Before I watched the film, all I knew about the plot was that two cowboys met atop Brokeback Mountain and developed a relationship, but after the summer, they both went back to their respective mundane lives while harbouring each other deep in their hearts. I expected the bulk of the film to be about their relationship in Brokeback Mountain, but as all good movies goes, it's not supposed to go as what you think.

*Spoilers ahead*

The main plot of the story goes as with what the above said, only that the bulk of the film was after they left Brokeback Mountain. Ennis married his fiance, had two daughters. Jack met a cowgirl in Texas, got married, had a son. But after four years of separation and missing each other at deep in their hearts, they got back together, and occasionally meet up with each other. They carried on such a relationship under the guise of fishing buddies for about another decade plus before having another argument and separation, only this time, everything ends like how the only way love could die, it's when your heart stops beating.

*Spoilers end here*

The beauty of Brokeback Mountain is not about the plot, but about how the characters are presented to us by the actors. Both leads were fantastic, the supporting cast was fabulous, you can just feel that they were the characters. It's also great that the characters did not act like stereotypical gays, and this made me feel the pain of them. I watch lots of manga and anime and a fair share of shounen-ai, so I actually can see and feel the beauty of such illicit relationships.

*May contain spoilers ahead*

But there a bit of disappointments too. Ennis and Jack's relationship was not fully developed when they were first at Brokeback Mountain. Yes, we see them bonding and getting to know and appreciate each other, but how did they fall in love? I don't think anyone can fall in love with anybody just by hearing that few things about his life story. An excuse could be that both are lonely, but similiarly, the loneliness they might have felt was not fully presented. Perhaps the director was afraid that the film would become long and draggy, but it does seem a bit awkward under my eye.

Their first sexual encounter, to me, was pretty surprising. I wasn't prepared for it, and that made me feel that the characters weren't really in love then. Maybe they first had that sexual relationship which gradually became into a more emotional interdependance, then love, or maybe not love, maybe an addiction they had for each other.

Another thing I was disappointed was the lengthy desciption of their mundane lives. The film goes on and describes about 20 years of their lives after the Brokeback encounter. 20 years in an hour half is not a very easy thing to compact. At times I felt a bit fustrated that nothing interesting happened, was bored, other times I felt that the relationships and the character development was poorly developed. There can be so much more about Lureen to develop, but she turned out to be pretty flat, other than her last scene.

But the development of the characters of Ennis and Jack was well done. They really grew up over the years, matured, and saw things in a different light, but also the development of their expectations of each other and through their actions and their treatment to each other, we can see the change.

One particular I really enjoyed watching was Alma, Ennis' fiance turned wife turned divorcee. Her character development was impressive. From the first day we saw her in the church getting married, to her bringing up the kids, then to see her finding out the relationship her husband had with another guy, and how it just grew over the years, and till the divorce and their last meeting she had with him with her new husband. My favourite scene of her, is a tie between her finding out of her husband's secret relationship and the last sex scene they had.

Alma Beers Del Mar: As far gone as we are on the bills, it makes me nervous not to use any sort of protection.
Ennis Del Mar: If you don't want no more Del Mars, I'll be happy to just leave you alone.
Alma Beers Del Mar: I'd have 'em if you'd support 'em.

They didn't have sex after that conversation. To Alma, it was a sign that he didn't love her, he didn't want to have sex with her, he was just happy to go without sex or anything. That crushed Alma. Perhaps, if they still did had sex, Alma might not have divorced him, I think.

*Spoilers end here*

Just wondering, what would you do if went home one day and find yourself in the position of Alma? I've a soft spot for homosexual (albeit only male-male) relationships, I think this is because I've read too much of such love relationship between beautiful men in mangas and anime. I think I'll set them free. I won't have that much tolerance if the other person was a female though. hahaha~

Regarding the relationship between Jack and Ennis, well, maybe in today, a modern world, a homosexual relationship is nothing much, so I was not able to feel that much of a pain from watching it. It seemed to be just about another love story between two people who aren't supposed to fall in love with each other.

I had the same sort of feeling when watching this film as I had with Japanese Story.
Opposed to what you may think derived from it's title, it's not a Japanese Story, more like an Australian Story. It's also about two people together, cut off from the rest of the world, seeking love and solace in each other, but not being able to be together. And also the twist, *spoilers ahead* both leads had to cope with their partner dying. *spoilers end here* Only Japanese Story did not span 20 years.

Another feeling was a similiarity with Lost in Translation.
Only without the sex and change the leads into a pair of homosexuals. Okay, maybe if the focus of Brokeback was more on their earlier encounter in Brokeback. But it uses the same sort of lonely, needing, solace finding relationships. Away from the other people, somewhere in a world of their own. I can almost imagine, on Bob's return to America, he might continue with his wife while occasionally remembered of Charlotte, and one day Charlotte might give him a ring and they can continue their relationship back in America, just like the following 20 years of Ennis and Jack.

My predictions for the Oscars,

Best Motion Picture of the Year: Munich, rather than Brokeback.
Just as Lost in Translation didn't manage to beat the blockbuster Lord of the Rings, Brokeback is a minnow compared to Munich. I'm guessing that judges might prefer something more entralling and politicised rather than something merely about relationships.

Best Actor: Heath Ledger
Yea... He did well enough to win that statue home.

Best Supporting Actor: Jake Gyllenhaal
In fact, I think he might be more suited for a best actor nod. hehehe...

Best Director: Steven Spielberg, not Lee Ang
I don't think Lee Ang can beat Spielberg in the powerhouse, just like his Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. On second thoughts, then again, maybe it's time for Lee Ang to get that nod. hmm...

Best Adapted Screenplay: Munich
I still think Munich is more of the Oscar material kind of stuff than a lightweight romance film.

Best Cinematography: Brokeback Mountain
Because of the disappointment in the other categories to Munich, I think this would be a token of appreciation to Brokeback Mountain.

Another thing I'd like to highlight is that I just realised that Brokeback Mountain is a film by Focus Features, the company which does art house films in US and also brings in good art house films into the US market. Think along of the lines of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, need I say anymore?

Brokeback Mountain is based on a short story. Does that sort of ring a bell? Memento was such too. Well, I was thinking, if one day I can bring my short stories to screen, wouldn't that be perfect? In terms of plot wise, my stories do have the calibre to match up against Brokeback Mountain, maybe not Memento. Then again, thinking, Brokeback Mountain is a simple story, Memento is too, I can match up Memento as the only thing that makes Memento interesting was it's cinematography, not the story. Hollywood, here I come~

Movie Updates

I went to watch Brokeback Mountain this evening.
This movie outing only proves to me how much I hate crowds and how much I'm allergic to people. I shall stick to my usual weekday outings next time.

I bought three DVDs from HMV today.
Shall tell you the story of HMV another time... It's sounds pretty romantic, in an illicit sort of way. hehehe...
Anyway, I bought
Unleashed
Der Untergang
Stalingrad

And by the way, I'm losing, so can more people vote for me please? *censored* Andrew korkor say he don't want vote for me liao cos he thinks me too discriminating. wahaha~
http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/

So as a token of bid for votes, I shall try and do my movies reviews (if I've the brain power, maybe tomorrow or maybe never depending on my mood ba... hahaha~). hmm... I watched Der Untergang before but can't remember if I wrote anything about it last time. But anyway I'll have to wrote a more precise piece on it because me and Cindy will be using a bit of it's material to do our oral presentation.

Which Leader am I?

thought this sounded pretty cool~

Quite interesting to note that it says pot smoking here. Especially when I'm on a coke diet lately. And another interesting thing to note...
read this link Eugene korkor found for me
Yea... It supposedly cures bipolar disorder, Marijuana...

Simi si Quantum? Simi si Life?

Andrew korkor gave me this video link. Maybe my puny brain can't work out most of the stuff, but his conclusion is that it's strange and illogical, but it is so.

As what Andrew korkor says,
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
It has affected me in the way that...I don't really know anything anymore.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Take for instance what most Christians/Muslims believe
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
1. God is omnipotent AND
2. Humans have free will.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
They're contradictory.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Free will means the future is not set in stone yet, that we can choose things.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
But if God is omnipotent, he must be able to see the future.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Means that the future is set in stone already.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Logically, people who believe are throwing logic out of the window.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Quantum physics makes me think: what if they're actually right?
- die xxoos der joan - says:
why would people who believe are throwing logic out of the window?
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Free will means the future is not set in stone yet, that we can choose things.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
But if God is omnipotent, he must be able to see the future.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
Means that the future is set in stone already.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
You can either believe
1. God is omnipotent OR
2. Humans have free will.
Dante - 我爱陈凤玲 says:
But believing in both creates a contradiction.
- die xxoos der joan - says:
ah... icic...

So does that mean I can act strange and illogical too? I feel tired about this whole voting process but still call people to vote for me.
http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/
I can have lots of ideas and scenes in my head about what my stories would be like, but not put them down to paper or print because I don't know why.

Think today shall be an emo night again.

金蝉脱壳

The video I was talking about.

The link to go if you want to vote for me.
http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/

The before story, the NUS Chinese Drama people dug a hole to bury me. Not wanted to get sand all over my clothes, I stripped to my bikini. Somewhere in between, Jinwei decided to make a sand pillow to rest my head, but it ended up burying my hair and I was not able to get my hair out of the sand. Also, a group of Banglas started staring at me. Our perception was that they wanted to see me coming out from the sand and oogle. What the fuck...

The video ended when I decided that since I was sandy I should go about "baobao"-ing other people and give them a taste of sand. Cindy freaked out by my hugs stopped the video and ran off.
-censored-
Why I do not like Banglas staring at me?
It the same reason why I got worked up last Christmas and New Year when there were Banglas molesting our teenage girls.

A local molester is only a molester, a Banglas molester is not just a molester he's something worse than that. It's not that I look down on the poorer nations, but to me, I think that the Banglas ought to be thankful that they are able to come to Singapore to work, any other foreign worker no matter where they come from and where they go should think this way too. And if they are thankful, they shouldn't be outraging the modesty of our girls. It's bad enough for a girl to be molested, it's worse for a girl to be molested by a foreign worker. It's bad enough for our society to have the existence of molesters, it's worse for our society to have the existence of foreign workers who are molesters.

This issue brings be back to an excursion Farrell brought us on for Singapore Military History. He said that one of the grand strategies that the Japanese took when they occupied Singapore was the condoning of the Japanese soldiers to ravage the local women. This sends out a message to the local men that they were not even able to take care of their women and children, so why should they even try take care of this country.

I parallelled this with what the Banglas are doing, as with what they Japanese did. It's of not much difference. The Banglas today can take advantage of our women, tomorrow they can take over our land, the day after tomorrow Singapore will become the next outpost island of Bangladesh. Our men? I don't know where they'd be. So, come on men, protect your women, not just by serving NS, not just by joining the armed forces, but by preventing our women from being taken advantage of.

In war, pyschological warfare plays a huge part. Singapore is very vulnerable to such, hence we must really do our utmost to prevent another tragedy from ocurring.

I'm not saying that we should not allow the Banglas to come to Singapore to work, I know definitely there are Banglas who really want to work and earn enough to provide for their family. But we should also culture them about our society. In Southern Asia, women are still subjugated. According to one season of Amazing Race, there were feedbacks that all the women in the show were molested in India. Maybe the Indians didn;t think there's anything wrong with molesting a couple of girls, so when we bring them into our society, we should let them know what's wrong. Also, they should be punished for their deeds, and make it known to the our Banglas that this is the consequence if they broke our law.

I remember last Deepavali, Sentosa was filled with thousands of Banglas, and they seriously traumatised me. Another horror account was on another occasion this Indian guy, he wore a pair of white shorts, went into the sea, came out drenched. In full view. I think Singapore has laws pertaining to indecent exposure.

Losing Steam

I think I'm losing steam. If the past few days I was going through the maniac symptoms of bipolar disorder, I think the next couple of days I'll be going through a depressed state. I can't keep myself upbeat all the time, and when I'm upbeat I can't control it, it goes totally out of control.

I'm been reading the other finalists' blogs. You can see the full list here
http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/
I don't know if I really care about winning or am I just pushing myself to want to win just because I have nothing that motivates me to go on. The past few days I've been rallying for votes, but suddenly I just feel so hollow about everything. So what if I win? It doesn't really matter, $200 is only 100euros, it can't even cover my a third of my monthly rent. I don't know if a couple of days later I'd change my mind and want to rally votes again or not. I don't even have a site meter to keep track of number of visitors. I don't know now if any of my profs are still reading my blog since I've been bumped off all my modules. I can't even contact Goh Bee Hwa of the Registra's Office to clear up this whole mess of my modules. I don't even feel that I'm about to fly.

Life at home sucks too. I have absolutely nothing to occupy my time. My family, make that my mother, doesn't understand my condition. She thinks I'm merely stressed over school work, like come on, what's so stressful about school when I don't even go to school? I don't even know if she knows I'm still on consultation even though I'm not on medication already. I think seriously, nothing helps.

Weird people have been adding me on MSN. I'm not a mean person by nature, but some people really do get on my nerves with their total ignorance. It gets very exasperating talking to them. And my fucking internet connection isn't working anymore. I keep dc-ing and keep having to tap into other people's wireless. And the worse thing, I'm back to my nocturnal lifestyle, so everything gets erratic. And I'm digressing...

I was saying I was reading the other finalists' blog, and I started reflecting on my past month of February. I think this can past off as the most turbulent month since last July. At least in the past it was a unipolar depression, I'm now starting to feel the effects of Jekel and Hyde. And with me having nothing to do at all, it gives me more time to do what I do best, get high, and get upset in extreme mode. The birthday is also a point of bipolar. Somethings I feel glad that I'm old already, sometimes I still wish I were young. Oh man... I don't even know what I'm talking now.

I made a bet with Andrew korkor, if he gets his book published before me I'd have to give him a treat, and vice versa. If I go into vanity publishing which I think I most probably would, it'd be whoever's book sells better. On hand I have two completed short story for the Parallelogram collection, and three completed short stories for the Prozac Nation collection. I've the outline of one more short story for the parallelogram collection on hand, and another two outlines for the Prozac Nation collection, but I just can't bring myself to pen it down. I guess writing
http://jal4eva.blogspot.com/2006/02/9-months.html
and
http://jal4eva.blogspot.com/2006/02/yesterday-and-today.html
totally burned me out. It always happens. I can't bring myself to write another piece because I always think my last is a masterpiece, yet I have to constantly better myself. And I lack the motivation to complete anything I start out with.

I want to write a piece based on this conversation
http://jal4eva.blogspot.com/2006/02/insight-dedicated-to-wei.html.
I have the whole outline in my head, but somehow I can't get it on paper. I'm also afraid. Afraid of sharing the fate of Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath. They seem to be holding me back from fully exploring my ideas.

Recently I've been having a vision. I want to get Separate Lives onto the big screen. A full length feature without any or minimal dialogue, it'd be wholly music and songs and a narration, or maybe two narrations. I'd narrate once in Chinese for the Chinese market and another in English for the international market. It wouldn't be too long, maybe about 70-80min, I'd include an epilogue that's not included in my story, the scene of which Jun and Jin would live their life had nothing happened. Jun will be married to the sister of his bassist, they'll live a simple and uneventful life. He'd still be at Min Rock Cafe day in day out, he'd still be making his kind of music, he's will be drawn to the enigmatic Jin, but he'd never make any move on her now that he's married.

Jin on the other hand will marry a friend from her university days. He'd be a friend whom she could settle with, not really someone whom she loves, but more so someone whom she can rely upon. She'd be promoted to a managerial position. She might or might not continue her patronage to Min Rock Cafe, maybe only about 2-3 times a week, or maybe less. She can have a daughter, or maybe a daugther and a son. She may or may not continue listening to the Min Rock CD daily. She will have to accept that she could never be with Jun.

But then if luck was on their side, say maybe one rainy day, they both meet in the rain. He brought an umbrella but she didn't, he tries to shelter her with his umbrella, but instead of being nice and dry under the umbrella, their hands meet the two rings shine on each other, the umbrella drops. They start kissing in the rain on the street. Have they married each other? Or something else instead.

I still have the full length novel to write. The plot is out, I have like half of the first draft out, but I want to make amendments to it, so I need to redraft it, but I keep putting that back because I can never seem to finish anything I'm doing and I really want to finish something. I also want to do the sequel. I have all the details of the plot, on paper somemore, not just in my head, but to convert everything, somehow, I don't have the steam to get me through it. Scarlet Flight, as I named it.

I had wanted to put up the video Cindy took of me at Sentosa beach, the scene where I was coming out of the sand after being buried. I guess that will have to wait.

I was supposed to meet Eunice to get the full sized photos and Cindy's (another Cindy) present, but why didn't I? I guess it should be on Friday ba...

I had wanted to sleep early today, but I guess I'll be sleeping very early later, early in the morning. The time on this blog heading is the time I started typing this blog entry, the time now reads 6.50am. My daddie's awake. My sister's awake. And I'm awake.

My plans for the rest of the week?
Being the nocturnal animal and the bipolar creature for Thursday and Friday.
Hopefully going out on Saturday and Sunday can put some life in me.

*the internet connection failed on me yet again. I'm trying to get mine back, but I don't think it's seems very possible. This sucks. Maybe I should go and sleep now. Or maybe I should just forget about posting this emo post up. I don't know*

*I got it back, not sure whose wireless I'm using. I don't care anymore.*

I'm going to sleep now. I think I shall wake up late tomorrow. I have this big problem regarding my sleeping habits, I sleep late and I wake up late. I've thought about it, I think it's a psychological problem. I don't want to sleep early because I don't want the day to end, by sleeping late, I can prolong to day, like to me now is still Wednesday night even though it says on my computer clock Thursday 7am. And I have problems waking up. I don't want to wake up because waking up is a start of a new day, a start to new problems, and it also means having to go through all those sucky things again. hai...

Hope tomorrow I can do a decent entry dedicated to Cindy's video. I think it deserves due respect.

Postscript (written at 2.29pm the same day): I just realised this morning when the morning reminder came that I was supposed to go for an appointment this afternoon. I could have been able to make it, but something inside me instigated me to come up with an excuse to postpone the appointment. And just a couple of minutes ago, Tim messaged me said Sunday's outing is cancelled, I guess I shall rot at home unless someone jios me out. But who would? Everyone's so busy with school work. Am I only only rotter around?

Wenn Ich Roman Abramovich Wäre

If I were Roman Abramovich, I wouldn't buy over Chelsea Football Club. I know this above sentence might sound weird since I'm a fanatic Chelsea supporter, but distancing myself from my own interests, and put myself in a more businessman thinking, I suppose this is what I wouldn't do. Instead, I'd set up my own football club. I'd build a stadium, I'd buy my players, I'd buy a manager, I'll compete in some league I've yet decided, I'll take over the world. Fantasy Football taken to a new high~

But before I forget, the usual plug, please vote for me~
http://nusartsclub.org/blogfest/

I'd call my football club XFC. I'll call my stadium Stadium of Fantasy. I'll buy my fantasy 11, and I'll buy a league of players to warm my benches. Maybe I shall play in the Premiership since that's the league with the highest media coverage. I'll build up a youth team and train young players and fulfill their potential. Because I am Roman Abramovich, I can do anything I want.

Of course, I am not him. I am Joan Ang, Chelsea supporter of 4 years, so I'd still buy over Chelsea Football Club and pull them out of their financial crisis, so I'd still bring in the talented big named players and warm my Chelsea benches, so I'd still pour in the money to establish the Chelsea youth team, so I'd build another Stamford Bridge, with a bigger capacity and better facilities to fulfill the potential of my players.

From a Chelsea supporter point of view, starting a new football team from scratch is a riddiculous idea. So what if I have my own football team, I do not have my supporters, I do not have a team that would gel, I would not have all the intangible benefits that made me love this sport this much.

I still love my team very much, but somehow I can't stop wondering if I took over the footballing world what would it be like.

I was talking to somebody I recently got to know about my fantasy 11. He was amazed that I actually wanted to include mediocre players such as Tim Borowski in my team, albeit possible not in the 11, but maybe on the bench. I thought hard about it. I don't think I'd actually put him in my fantasy team unless that means I get to date him. He's actually but a mere football pin up to this girl. Same as Pires, Guti, and Ljungberg. I don't like them for their football skills but merely because they look cute. I guess I can also be pretty shallow.

So after doing research from Wikipedia and ESPN Soccernet and Football Database, I've decided that my fantasy 11 would be playing in a formation of 3-4-2-1...

Goalkeeper:

My choice after a long thought would be
cech_p1
Cech
He's young, can stay in the game for another 10 more years, with Chelsea definitely. He's tall, for position, height is an advantage. He has enough experience, playing at various international and European levels. To me a goalkeeper is the most important player on the pitch, without him the team wouldn't be able to win. You can score lots of goals, but if you allow more goals into, well, you'd definitely lose.

I first saw his heroics during the Euro2004, he amazed him with his age and skills. But still I thought he was only going to be a bench warmer when we bought him over since he still lacked the experience and confidence we had of Cudicini, but of course, Cudicini lacked international experience. I guess that was the reason Mourinho had when he placed Cech in between the poles. Even though Cech did amazed me during the Euros, I never expected this much of him in his first season with us, but after seeing his performance, I must say he's really the current best young yet experienced goalkeeper in the world.

Another reason for my soft spot for goalkeepers is that in every team there can only be one goalkeeper, that makes him unique. So in my quest for my fantasy 11, I actually shortlisted another three more goalkeepers which I think I can put on my bench.

casillas_i3
Casillas
Another young and experienced goalkeeper. The man who single handedly prevented Real Marid from self destructing. Despite his young age, he has played in many international tounaments such as the World Cup 2002 and the Euro 2004, also playing for many Champions League matches for Real Madrid. I of course saw him in the WC2002, but I hadn't realised that he was that young. I can see him in at least another 2 more World Cups, make that 3 since the next world cup is in about 5 more months. In the last season when Real Madrid flopped badly, he was the only consistent player and helped prevented Real Madrid from losing with embarassing scorelines. It also helps that he's like so cute~ wahaha~

kahn_o2
Kahn
He is old. But with immense experience. I guess with my policy of using young players whom I can use for a couple more years, I wouldn't use Kahn, but his experience and his wealth of knowledge and his charming good looks (yes, I know I have weird taste), I really couldn't resist putting his name down onto this parchment. In footballing notions, I am a Kahn supporter, as opposed to Lehmann whom I think is a big wuss, I believe with Kahn's experience, Lehmann is really no match. In the warped mind of Joan, Kahn is the epitome of her standard of a good looking German. Tall, blonde, blue eyed, speaks with a booming voice, chiselled face, manly charm... Ooh... He definitely goes into my list of sexy men~

0,,10278~328041,00
Given
I shall talk about how I first got to know him, not from his on the field heroics, but by the vast number of jokes about him circulating around the internet. My favourite one is that there was a fire and a woman with her newborn were trapped. Given told the woman that he was Given and she can throw down her baby for him to catch. She did so upon hearing that he was Given, and indeed he caught the baby. Just as everyone applauded for him, he settled the baby on the ground and kicked it 50 yards out. hahaha~ Okay, Given is the Casillas of Newcastle, the man who single handedly prevented Newcastle from dying. I think he's really great, but he just lacks that something playing for teams like Newcastle and Ireland.

Defenders:

I had wanted to play with four defenders, but after pondering and discussing with Eugene korkor, I've decided that I can't think up of a really good leftback nor a really good rightback, so without the fullbacks, I have to play with three centre defenders. I don't know in practice would this work, but in theory it does sound a bit decent. Three solid defenders doing the work of four. I just hope that my wingers would be able to drop back and defend when needed to fill up the holes on the field.

Naming a team, I'd definitely foremost put his name down, no matter what.
John_Terry
Terry
The heart and spine of Chelsea. Need I say anything more about my reason for putting him down? He's one guy who really worked hard to achieve what he has now. He started his career by picking up balls on the Chelsea pitch, he went through bad patches with the law and media and got out of it to become a more matured man and player. He stood in his ground and proved to be a consistent player as Ferdinand and Campbell fizzled out. Today he is the captain of Chelsea, tomorrow the England captain perhaps. There are calls for him to take over the England armband after Beckham retires from captaining. I'll support this cry~

Pairing him would be
Jamie_Carragher
Carragher
A Pool fan was very surprised when I revealled that my choice pairing of English defenders would be Terry with Carragher. I hold Ferdinand in contempt due to his diva attitude, I hold Campbell in contempt because he can't differentiate personal and work problems, and more importantly, as you'd notice later on, I actually disciminate. Note: the correct word I use is discriminate, not anything else. Also, justifying my choice would be that Chelsea and Liverpool have the best defense in the Premiership, and this is the hardwork of Terry and Carragher.

And then what is a defence without any AC Milan defenders?
Alessandro_Nesta
Nesta
Well, actually I think AC Milan's defence is really aging, and plagued with injuries, yet the new ones aren't able to fit into the boots of the old ones. Nesta is still in his prime, not that bad. Okay, he's like really good, must give him due credit, for country and for team. A pity this photo doesn;t do him justice, he's another good looking fellow. hehehe~

To put on the bench, I guess I'd go with
RetratPuyol
Puyol
A rightback converted to become a centreback. I guess if I really need a rightback he'd be considered, but then again, he's now mostly playing in centreback position so would he be as good as back to the rightback? hmm... I'm not very sure. I'm not really a fan of Barcelona's defence, so it does shave of some marks of him. But him being Barcelona's captain then again puts marks back into him. I like good looking captains~

Paolo_Maldini
Maldini
A legend. But as what I was saying, he's too old, he's like older than Kahn, he's now injury plagued. But he's still a legend. And with no other coming footballers to establish themselves in the leftback position, Maldini will still be a legend in that position.

Midfielders/Wingers:

I was thinking if I should separate the midfielders and the wingers because I'd play different players under different formations. Also, should I go for an all out flanks player or keep it more controlled. hmm... Since I was saying I'll be playing in a 3-4-2-1 formation, I think it'd be better if I keep my flanks well covered.

In the right wing shall be
robben_a03
Robben
I know the fiasco he had with Reina did make him look like an actor but let's admit that he's something more than that. He's a player. He knows how to make his team win, and I think that's a good thing, maybe it still isn't that polished, but he's still young, he'll mature soon. His partnering with Duff was the best Chelsea had with them combining to many a 4-0 scorelines to great effect, I just cannot bear not to put him down in my fantasy, especially when I need the wingers to cover the flanks in this 3-4 approach.

On the left would then be the partner
180px-Duffpostersmall
Duff
Robben and Duff combination is not only lethal, but also invincible. When either of them is injured the Chelsea team would be unable to get large scoreline victories. Duff I think is quite an underrated player. I think a good player needs to get the adequate international experience to play well, and Duff is unfortunately not in a very strong footballing nation and this is hurting his experience level. But still, I think he's great, at least he can be great enough with the correct pairings.

*Sidenote: This sucks. For the like twentieth time my internet connection failed me. Today, just like yesterday, my internet connection is like highly unstable and I keep getting disconnected. How can I type a blog post in peace like that? Worse still, how can I upload my pictures and provide you with visual descriptions of how my fantasy 11 looks like. The footballers I've chosen are also all damn shuai lor.*

In the centre I'd put definitely the more deserving footballer of the year
260px-Lampard
Lampard
Whoever who says Ronaldinho is the world's best footballer is talking rubbish, this guy then should be the world's best footballer. He's hardworking, superfit, good attitude, improved, well rounded, and not one piece of arrogant shit. And he's also damn shuai too, not like some guy who looks worse than a monkey. Lampard is one who rose through the ranks, from being a bench warmer in the national team to a first choice player. He matured and improved a great deal from his sheer hardworkingness at the club level, displacing talkings about nepotism. But the most amazing thing about this guy is his sheer fitness level. How many players can play for this many matches and not get injured, or sent off, or suspended? And got picked to be in the team under different clubs and different managers. Definitely not that yaya gorilla.

Michael_Ballack_%28Confed-Cup_2005%29
Ballack
There are talks that we'll be bringing him in, I think that would be great! Then I can test out see if my fantasy midfield of Lampard and Ballack pairing would work or not. Ballack is a team player, yet he's able to rally his team behind him and work towards their aim. Maybe in Chelsea he might not feature to be that inspirational since we have so many other leading figures, but his technical ability and versatility will give my team that edge. But then again, for the future of German football, I think it might be better that Ballack stay in Germany. If Ballack leaves then there's nothing left in Germany's Bundesliga, and that would be totally schade.

On my bench, I can fill up every position one time over to make sure that I have adequate coverage in case of injuries or suspension.

David_Beckham
Beckham
He is an overrated player definitely, but that doesn't mean that he's not a superb player in his own rights. He's still a master of freekicks and crosses even though he suck totally in penalties. He is what football need to market itself and generate more revenue for the game and for everyone involved in the game, it's like lifting the whole bar up higher. And if I ever have my own team, I'd need him to sell jerseys and attract fans (yea, right). Beckham is useful to have, in short.

joe_with_premtrophy
Cole
This Cole is the Joe one, not to be confused with other Coles including his own team mate. This Cole is the product of Mourinho's superbness. Mourinho singlehandedly moulded him into a gem. He was previously an uncut stone, very raw but very talented and creative, but of not much value since he's unpolished, but Mourinho picked him up, gave him a perfect cut, and polished him to perfection, and he's now a valuable player on the field. I see him filling up the problem left place in the English side. And the thing with Cole is that he's still improving, so we can be assured of more stellar performances in the near and far future. Erikkson should really thank Mourinho for solving the problem in the left for him.

nedved_p4
Nedved
He's a bit old, but he's still a spectacular player. I can't put him in my 11 but he does have a place in my bench in case some other player gets injured. He's everything, creative, dependable, and of course damn shuai with his Beatle cut hair in blond. Beatle cut hair is cute, and it's even cuter in blond~ He looks like a doll.

200px-Steven_Gerrard
Gerrard
By right, a pairing of Lampard and Gerrard is supposed to be invincible on paper, but on the field, this somehow always doesn't manage to work out, so I really cannot put him down on my 11. Maybe if Gerrard had left Liverpool and gelled with us in Stamford Bridge, things might work out to be better. I was telling a Pool fan why Gerrard is lousier than Lampard. Gerrard is not as fit as Lampard, not as hardworking, not as dedicated, not that all well rounded. The recent news that Benitz asked Erikkson to rest Gerrard was total crap to me. In my footballing world, no decent player would ask not to play a match. That sounds like what the diva Ferdinand would do. With this, I lost all remaining respect I had for Gerrard. The manager can assess to see if Gerrard is fit enough to play, but to ask for him not to play is ridiculous. Okay, another part of me also silently hope that Gerrard can be tired from all the matches and lead Liverpool to its demise, but then again, if you are really a superfit player (read: Lampard), you won't be tired.

Supporting Strikers:

200px-Kaka_100905
Kaka
When I first saw him play I had not realise he was that young, he certainly had the maturity in termas of controlling the ball and playing the game as a team which was quite unusual for a Brazilian, I know I'm stereotyping, but what to do, I'm a shallow little girl. It also helps him that he's like totally cute. And it's pretty unusual for a Bazilian to be white, I know I'm stereotyping again. wahaha~

180px-Eidur_Gudjohnsen
Gudjohnsen
He is a what I call a makeshift player, able to fit in different positions where he is needed. A very useful player. He's also a good one with a keen eye for teamwork playing able to take chances when presented to him. But sadly he has been dropped to a lower level playing since Mourinho's new tactics doesn't have a space for him to fit in. Luckily lately we see more of him due to injuries, and with his new makeshift role, he's really still maturing when one might think he's already exprienced enough. Even the yaya gorilla had praised him. Anyway, I think this role behind the striker would be best suited for him and the team because of his qualities, very unselfish and has a keen eye for playing.

On my bench I shall put an old player
Dennis_Bergkamp_110505
Bergkamp
He may be on the verge of retiring but that doesn't rule out his ability. He has great sight which a lot of younger players do not have, and this will prove to be the slight difference between equally matched teams. However, one really big downside is that this guy can only play half the matches especially in international games because of his phobia. If only World Cup 2002 wasn't in Asia, perhaps we might be able to see a better Bergkamp and a better Holland.

Striker:

The guy who scores the goals
200px-Andriy_Shevchenko_Champions_League_2004_flag
Shevchenko
Buying Parker was a costly mistake. Buying Parker and then throwing him in the reserves team was a very costly mistake. Buy Parker and then selling him away discounted was a flaunt of wealth. It did the player more harm than good.
Buying Wright-Phillips was not worthwhile. Buying Wright-Phillips at 24 million was very not worthwhile. Buying Wright-Pillips at 24 million and throwing him onto the benches a flaunt of wealth.
Yes, they might be good substitutes to the injury problems, but them still it's a flaunt of wealth.
BUT investing 50 million pounds on one Shevchenko would be sound. Yes, that is how I'm rating him. He's this good. Drogba, can go eat shit, he's almost as bad as Wright-Phillips. Crespo, I think he's his potential in somewhere other than in England, I sort of pity him. We NEED Shevchenko.

For the bench, I'll put
w3
Klose
I won't put him as a main striker. Maybe if I'm playing a 4-4-2, I'll put him as second striker. He's a team player and I always admire teamplayers because football is essentially a team game. Klose, unlike what some people think is not a second rated player, he's good enough as a world class player, just that he happens to play in the Bundesliga and a lot of people are not familiar with that league. It's not only that good players must come from the EPL, ignorant fools. Klose is also great at headers which really comes in useful in corners and freekicks. Deadballs are always useful when playing an equally matched team.

180px-Hernan_Crespo
Crespo
Surprised I put him down on my bench when I just advocated for Chelsea to sell him away? Yea... I said he's just not suited for playing in England. And hypothetically, in my team we can play football somewhere else, and I just know that Crespo will just shine in my footballing world.

Last but not least, the most important person in the team.

Manager:

Jose_Mourinho
Mourinho
He is the most worthwhile person Abramovich bought with his billions. It's not Cech, it's not Robben, it's not Crespo, it's not Makelele, it's this man. Nothing against Rainieri, I love him too, it's just that he can't gel the expensive big name players like what Mourinho did. I'm a believer in team playing and any player who thinks he's bigger than the team ought to be shot. But not every manager is able to work this one out with his team. Just see how's Real Madrid with it's expensive squad, Chelsea would become that if not for Mourinho.

He may be cocky and arrogant, but at least he knows his motives, that it's the team above any individual player. I personally think that all those cockiness Mourinho has is just to emphasise this point to his players that they are not the biggest thing in the squad. And also to remove the prying media's eyes on his precious players by shifting them all to himself, after all, he isn't playing and there's no pressure on him on the field with cameras focusing on him.

I don't know how many of you noticed this particular thing regarding my dream team. There's something very lacking in my team. I'd like to make this clear, I'm just nothing more than a very discriminating person, no other motives behind my discriminations, so don't direct any possible labels onto me other than that I'm a shallow girl who discriminates incriminatingly. Yea, and I admit, because of my discrimination, I am unable to come up with a better team even though there are more effective players, especially in the positions of the fullbacks.

A long long parchment of entry I have typed but unable to post it up immediately after I have typed it no thanks to my irritating internet connection. damn... Not I've to again tap on someone else's connection. This is bad...
